Title: Assessment of Personality
Profile Traits Using the HEXACO
Model
Introduction
About the model: The HEXACO Model of Personality was developed by
Kibeom Lee and Michael C. Ashton as a six-factor structure of personality
derived from lexical studies across multiple languages.
HEXACO stands for:
H – Honesty–Humility
E – Emotionality
X – eXtraversion
A – Agreeableness
C – Conscientiousness
O – Openness to Experience
Unlike the Big Five model, HEXACO includes Honesty–Humility as a
distinct dimension, capturing sincerity, fairness, and modesty.
Description of the Six Dimensions
1. Honesty–Humility – Sincerity, fairness, modesty
2. Emotionality – Fearfulness, anxiety, sentimentality
3. Extraversion – Social self-esteem, boldness, sociability
4. Agreeableness – Forgiveness, patience, tolerance
5. Conscientiousness – Organization, diligence, perfectionism
6. Openness to Experience – Creativity, curiosity, aesthetic
appreciation
Review of Literature: How the scale was developed? Some
relevant literature relating to it.
Aim
To assess the personality traits of a participant using the HEXACO model
and interpret the obtained profile.
Objectives
1. To administer the HEXACO inventory on a participant.
2. To calculate raw and mean scores for each trait.
3. To interpret the participant’s personality profile.
Sample
Sample Size: 1 participant
Age: 18 years and above
Inclusion Criteria: Literate adult, willing to participate
Exclusion Criteria: Severe psychological distress or inability to
comprehend the items
Tool Used
HEXACO-60 Personality Inventory
Developed by Kibeom Lee and Michael C. Ashton
60 items
5-point Likert scale:
1 = Strongly Disagree
2 = Disagree
3 = Neutral
4 = Agree
5 = Strongly Agree
Each dimension consists of 10 items.
Procedure
Rapport Formation
Explain the purpose of the study.
Assure confidentiality.
Obtain informed consent.
Instructions to Participant
Provide standardized instructions:
You will be given a set of statements about personality characteristics.
Please read each statement carefully and indicate how much you agree or
disagree using the response scale. There are no right or wrong answers.
Administration
Provide the questionnaire.
Ensure a quiet environment.
Clarify doubts (without influencing responses).
Allow approximately 10–15 minutes.
Collection
Check if all items are answered.
Thank the participant.
Scoring Procedure
Step 1: Identify Items for Each Dimension
Each of the 60 items belongs to one of the six dimensions (10 items per
trait).
Step 2: Reverse Scoring
Some items are reverse-keyed.
For reverse-scored items:
1→5
2→4
3→3
4→2
5→1
(Students must refer to the scoring key provided with the test.)
Step 3: Calculate Raw Score
Add the scores of the 10 items for each trait.
Example:
Honesty–Humility = Sum of its 10 items
Minimum = 10
Maximum = 50
Step 4: Calculate Mean Score (Recommended)
Mean Score = Total Score ÷ 10
This gives a score between 1 and 5.
Interpretation of Scores
Use mean scores for interpretation:
Mean Score Interpretat
Range ion
1.0 – 2.4 Low
2.5 – 3.4 Moderate
3.5 – 5.0 High
Example Interpretation Format
Emotionality
The participant may be emotionally stable, less anxious, and less prone to
fearfulness.
Extraversion
Indicates sociability, confidence, and high social engagement.
Results Section
Example: The participant scored high on Honesty–Humility and
Conscientiousness, moderate on Agreeableness and Openness, and low
on Emotionality. The personality profile suggests a disciplined, sincere,
socially confident, emotionally stable individual.

How does Honesty–Humility differentiate HEXACO from Big Five?
Conclusion
The HEXACO model effectively provided a structured understanding of the
participant’s personality traits across six dimensions.
