a) Construct a frequency distribution table with class size of 5.

b) Compute the mean, mode and median of the monthly medical

allowance paid to the employees.

c) Compute the variance and standard deviation of the medical

allowances paid to the employees.

QUESTION TWO
a) Explain the meaning of correlation coefficient and give the different
forms of correlation.
b) Ten interns seeking opportunity for permanent job were given two
aptitude tests with score recorded in the table below.

Interns A B C D E F G H I J

Oral test ( x ) 78 56 60 37 64 89 48 55 71 52

Written tests( y ) 69 80 57 52 85 66 47 76 63 73

i) Construct a scatter diagram to represent the scores and draw line of

best fit.

ii) Using the product moment method, determine the correlation
coefficient between the scores and comment on the result obtained.
iii) Find the least square regression equation for the scores. Use it
predict the score of an intern in written test, if she obtained 50 in
oral test.

QUESTION THREE

a) Write down any three rules of differentiation.

b) Find the derivative;
5
i) y=(3 x ¿¿ 2+ 1)(2 x )¿ .
3−2 x
ii) y=
3+2 x

c) A firm’s marginal cost is given by MC=25+ Q2+ 2Q , the fixed cost is 100.
Find the following function of the firm.
i) The Total Cost (TC).
ii) Average cost (AC).
iii) Average Variable Cost (AVC).
d) Find the following

i) Feasible region.
ii) Objective function.
b) Describe the steps you would follow in solving a linear programming
problem.
c) A car park is to be a land for pickups and buses. A pickup is allowed
100m2 and a bus 200m2 of space and there is only 5000 m2 space
available. Not more than 40 vehicles are allowed at a time. There are
always both types of vehicles parked and at most 5 buses are
allowed at a time.
i) Write down five inequalities basing on the facts.
ii) Show on a graph paper the region satisfying the inequalities
iii) The parking charge for a pickup is Shs 1000 and that of a bus
is Shs 2000 per day. Find how many vehicles of each type
should be parked in the lot in order to maximize income.
