UPS System Testing Checklist (with Table Format)
1. Pre-Test Preparations
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Verify test permits and safety clearances are obtained
Ensure UPS manufacturer’s manual and test procedures are available
Confirm correct UPS capacity and model
Check availability of test equipment
Verify battery breaker/fuse ratings and connections
Ensure bypass supply is available and functional
Confirm adequate ventilation and room temperature within limits
2. Visual Inspection
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Check UPS physical condition (cabinets, covers, cleanliness, signs of overheating)
Verify proper grounding and bonding
Inspect input/output power cables for correct sizing, terminations, and tightness
Check battery connections (clean, corrosion-free, properly torqued)
Verify polarity and labeling of DC wiring
Ensure protective devices (breakers, fuses) are installed and accessible
Check indicators, displays, and alarms for normal status
3. Electrical Tests
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Measure input supply voltage (phase-to-phase, phase-to-neutral)
Verify input frequency is within UPS tolerance
Measure output voltage and frequency (no-load condition)
Check output phase rotation
Measure battery float voltage (total and per cell/module)
Measure DC bus voltage
Perform insulation resistance tests (if required)
4. Battery System Tests
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Confirm battery charger is working (float & boost modes)
Measure charging current and verify within limits
Perform battery autonomy test
Check thermal condition of batteries
Verify battery monitoring system operation (if installed)
5. Functional Tests
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Transfer UPS to battery mode and verify load is supported without interruption
Transfer UPS to bypass mode and verify operation
Return UPS to normal mode
Simulate utility power failure and confirm UPS supplies load from battery
Check inverter synchronization with bypass supply
Verify alarm indications for faults
Test remote monitoring/communication functions
6. Load Tests
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Apply step-loads (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) using a load bank
Record voltage, frequency, and response time at each load step
Verify UPS handles transient loads without abnormal alarms
Check efficiency readings (if available)
7. Post-Test Checks
Item Status (■/■) Remarks
Ensure UPS is returned to normal operation
Verify battery is recharging correctly
Reset and acknowledge all alarms
Record all test readings in log sheets
Prepare test report with results, deviations, and corrective actions
