Improvement of Connectivity in The Rural School

Introduction:

Technology has changed the face of education, as it has of so

many other aspects of modern life. In recent years, there has been a
meteoric rise in the adoption of instructional software, interactive
whiteboards, and online learning platforms (Dwivedi, 2020). The promise
of technology to enhance education is clear, but its efficacy in the school
is still up for debate, especially in less-populated areas.

Because of the disparate deployment of technology in the rural

schools in the United states sometimes fall short of their urban
counterparts in terms of funding and internet access (Greenhow et al.,
2021). Isolation and a lack of resources can make it so that rural schools
struggle more with technology than their urban counterparts. As a result,
there may be significant distinctions in the uses of technology and their
impacts between urban and rural schools (Ewing & Cooper, 2021).

Technology leads to a good life as it is responsible for

advancement in all sectors of the economy. It is because it provides us to
improved the quality of life means to achieve something faster and in an
easier manner, not only is access to the internet helpful for people
organize, collaborate and share information to others, but in
some location of school that is in rural area, Its affect
productivity of the organization if the connection of the internet
was not good, Modern technology has led to the evolution of several
device such as the smartphone, computers. From the communication and
transport to connectivity technology has enhanced our lives for better for
instance , we have come from far traditional audio calls to instant
messaging and facetime. Learning technology is just like a
communication, information and technological tools used to enhance
learning, and teaching that may involved computer based learning
multimedia materials used to supplement in class activities.

This case study approach to learn more about how to improve

technology into rural school.

Background :

Our school is located in rural area where the development of

the new trends like connectivity of the internet was very poor, every
time if we need to submit report we need to find an area in school where
we can access to communicate or sometimes one of us that live in the
town were there have internet connection must go home early to do a
report specially if it is submit asap. Teachers, Stakeholders, Parents,
pupils are suffering of this kind of internet access, because they cannot
communicate to their love ones properly, do their homework, project, and
teachers cannot access immediately to the internet because of the poor
connection in our area.

Alternatives:

To lessen the problem in connectivity, The school

management decided to brought a wifi modem with the antenna, but
because of the location it does not work to be faster the connection of the
internet the result is still poor, so its rejected,. otherwise its need a high
capacity of the modem or seek help to the barangay officials, stakeholders
or community as a partner of the school community.
Solution:

As a nonprofit rural school, inform the community barangay officials

and stakeholders trust works to improve rural communities by investing in
their school and discuss the connection and the used of technology in
rural schools (Toshkov et al.,2022)

There’s no impossible to the individual to seek help, our principal

send the invitation letter to those individual that involve or can help to the
problem of school, Our principal ask the officials ,and stakeholders as part
of the community school if they can put up the high capacity modem or
peso-net that nearest to school, because the cost of the piso-net was a
little bit expensive and school cannot afford the cost of piso-net, luckily ,
there are two stakeholders who recommend that they can do it, and
beside it can help for them for their source of income , but there is always
advantages and dis-advantages of technology, the advantages are: it can
improved communication and connectivity to their families, increased
efficiency and productivity of the school, enhance learning and education
of the pupils in the school. The dis-advantages are dependence and
addiction to the new trends of technology, isolation and loneliness or no
socialization happen of the young ones, they don’t like to socialite. So it
needs self discipline in using new trends of technology, participation of
the parents, so the officials and the two stakeholders agreed that they will
contact the person that knowledgeable for installing the said piso-net
because they saw it to other rural areas that used also piso-net, or piso
WiFi and it is one of the hottest topics in the Philippines right now. Piso
WiFi is a unique business model that lets you share your extra Internet
connection with others who cannot afford a personal connection. It can be
very profitable, but it's important to understand how this system works
before investing in one.

The term Piso WiFi is a portmanteau of "Piso," which means one peso in
the Philippines, and "WiFi."
According to some articles, this business allows customers to pay for
internet access with a small amount of money rather than making them
subscribe to expensive plans like those offered by telecommunications
companies like Globe Telecom or Smart Communications. Customers can
purchase internet access for as little as 20 pesos, granting them unlimited
data usage until midnight that day.

It offers free internet access to customers of businesses or organizations

that install a WiFi hotspot on their premises.

Piso WiFi is a business that uses coin-operated computers located in areas

where many people have access but aren't able to afford an Internet
connection.

The Piso WiFi business model is a great way for people to earn income
without investing in expensive equipment or technology. It's also very
easy for anyone who wants to start up their own business from home or
anywhere else where there's access to electricity and space for
computers.

It is a self-service coin-operated Internet system that caters to people

trying to stay connected while on the go. So the school for now can access
to the internet, even sometimes there is instances that the connection is
poor, because of the weather condition in rural area that affects to the

connectivity.
Recommendation:

The possible solution about connectivity is to gather information,

seek help to those individuals that involved in school organization,
discuss the problem and the solution that can possible to solve the
problem for the fastest connectivity of the technology in rural area where
the internet connection is very poor .These will become possible with the
help of both individuals, upon the recommendation of the principal,
officials and stakeholders.
