1. Identify a global trend or event that impacted a specific company. How did the company
respond to this change?
The COVID-19 pandemic was a global event that heavily impacted Airbnb.
With global travel restrictions, bookings dropped drastically. Airbnb
responded by shifting its focus from international travel to local experiences
and long-term stays, encouraging customers to book homes nearby for work-
from-home or staycations. This strategy helped the company recover and
adapt to changing customer needs.

2. Compare the omnipotent and symbolic views of management. Provide examples from
local organizations.
The omnipotent view assumes managers are directly responsible for a
company’s success or failure. For example, in the UAE, Emirates Airline’s
CEO is often credited for the company’s growth and innovation.
The symbolic view, however, suggests that external factors such as the
economy, market conditions, or government policies have more influence
than managers. For instance, restaurants in Dubai faced challenges during
the pandemic due to restrictions, regardless of management efforts.

3. Describe the culture of a company you are familiar with. How has this culture
contributed to its success or failure?
Apple has a culture of innovation, excellence, and secrecy. Employees are
encouraged to think creatively and focus on user experience. This culture
has contributed to Apple’s success by fostering continuous innovation,
leading to groundbreaking products like the iPhone and MacBook.

4. How can organizational culture serve as a competitive advantage? Provide examples.

A strong organizational culture builds loyalty, efficiency, and innovation. For
example, Google’s open and collaborative culture encourages employees to
share ideas freely, which leads to new product innovations and attracts top
talent. This culture differentiates Google from competitors and supports long-
term growth.

5. In your opinion, how can companies manage their relationships with stakeholders to
achieve sustainable success?
Companies can manage stakeholder relationships by
maintaining transparency, ethical practices, and regular communication. For
instance, Etihad Airways invests in sustainability projects and community
initiatives to build trust with customers, employees, and government bodies.
Strong stakeholder relationships ensure long-term support and a positive
reputation.
