PSY4310 Counselling Psychology Re-authoring conversation
Based on the externalized conversation we have performed last week. We will try to identify the
unique outcome and have a re-authoring conversation together.
To remind us what we have discussed in the previous session. Please repeat the part II of the
interview together with special attention to the person’s action (including thinking, acting, planning,
saying, dreaming, not acting in the Y’s way).
[Instruction for the interviewee]
Now take the same characteristic and turn it into a noun, “Y.” ____________________
(For example, “disorganization”, “Neurosis”, “Anxiety”)
[Instruction for the interviewer]
Please interview your partner with the following questions
(substitute Y in the question with the noun provided by your partner)
What made you vulnerable to Y?
Under what circumstances is it more likely that Y may take over the situation?
What effects does Y have on your life and your relationship with other people?
Has Y led you to any difficulties you may be experiencing in the present?
Have there been times in which Y might have taken over the situation but you did not let it happen?
Please pay special attention to the person’s action (including thinking, acting, planning, saying,
dreaming, not acting in the Y’s way). Once you identified an action that is not aligned with the
problem. Please try to inquiry about the character by the action by asking
What does this action inform us about your character?
Does this action of you tell us that you sometimes do have ___________ (a character)?
Action / Thought / Dream Align with the Problem (yes/no) Character emerged from the
action
