GRADE 9 SCIENCE
FACTORS AFFECTING THE
CLIMATE
CLIMATE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson,students should be able to;
• explain how different factors affect the climate of an area;
• describe certain climatic phenomena that occur on a global level
;and
• construct a slogan banner that encourages climate responsibility
using accurate climate concepts learned in class.
WEATHER
What is Weather ?
Its is the condition of the
atmosphere at a specific place
and time.
Factors affecting the weather
Temperature
It is the degrees of hotness or
coldness of a place.
WIND
It is the movement of air in the
atmosphere.
AIR
PRESSURE
It is the force caused by the
weight of air in the earth's
surface.
HUMIDITY
It is the amount of water vapor
in the air.
presipitation
It is the water falling from the
atmosphere, in the forms of rain
,snow or hail

PRECIPITATION
CLIMATE
WHAT IS
CLIMATE?
It is general pattern of weather
in a certain area over a long
period of time.
FACTORS AFFECTING THE
CLIMATE
LATITUDE
• It is the distance (in degrees) to the
NORTH and SOUTH from the EQUATOR
• It is an imaginary line that is parallel to
the equator.
3 CLIMATE ZONE
ALTITUDE It is the height above sea level.
EXAMPLE:
Places with higher elevation have cold
climates just like baguio city for every
1000 meters there is a drop of 6.5
degree celcius THE DECREASE IN AIR
TEMPERATURE IS DUE TO THE
DECREASESIN AIR PRESSURE.

BODIES OF
WATER?
Land heats and cools faster
than the sea .
Coastal areas have lower
temperature than inland
areas.
Topography
The topography of earth's surface is one of the factors that affects
weather system and climate. The difference in elevation and mountain
ranges determine the distribution of precipitation on earth. The bodies
of water shape the climates and create the high- and low-pressure
systems that cause weather events. The mountainous areas tend to
have extreme weather because it acts as a barrier to air movements
and moisture.
️ Windward Side
• Faces the incoming wind.
• Receives warm, moist air.
• Air rises, cools, and forms clouds and precipitation.
• Results in a cooler climate with lush vegetation.
Leeward Side
• Opposite side of the mountain.
• Air descends after losing moisture on the windward side.
• Becomes warm, dry, and less humid.
• Experiences little precipitation, creating a rain shadow effect.
• Known as the driest side of the mountain.
