elephant
toothpaste
L A R A N A C O M P A N Y
What’s this thing?
It’s a super fun science trick that makes a ton of
foam that looks like a giant blob of toothpaste! It’s
called “elephant toothpaste” because it’s big
enough for an elephant’s teeth! It also gets a little
hot.
who made it?
No one person invented it. It’s a classic science
experiment that teachers and scientists have been
doing for a long, long time. The fun name,
“elephant toothpaste,” is a new thing people
started calling it.
HOW DO YOU
MAKE IT?
YOU NEED A FEW THINGS. YOU MIX THEM IN A BOTTLE
AND WATCH THE MAGIC HAPPEN!
01 HYDROGEN PEROXIDE
This is the main liquid. It’s like a special water
that you can find at the store. For the best
foam, you use a strong kind, but for kids at
home, you use a weak kind so it’s safe.
02 YEAST
: This is like the stuff you use to bake bread.
It’s the secret ingredient! You mix it with a
little bit of water.
DISH SOAP
03
The regular kind you use to wash dishes. This
makes the foam bubbly.

To make your foam a cool color! To put everything in.
H O W TO P R E PA R E T H I S E X P E R I M E N T ?
First, you mix the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap in
the bottle. Then, you pour in the yeast mixture. Watch
out! A huge, colorful foam will come rushing out!
WHAT HAPPENS?
The yeast makes the hydrogen peroxide break apart super fast. When it
breaks apart, it makes tons of oxygen gas. The dish soap traps all that gas, so
you get a massive pile of foam. It also gets warm because of the chemical
reaction.
It’s really cool to watch, but remember, the stuff you use can be strong,
so you should always have a grown-up help you do it to stay safe!
THANK YOU!
