planning and research for the product.
● Production- The production stage is the producing and the
making of material.
● Post-Production- The final stage is the post-production stage
which is the construction, editing and the finishing touches of the
product.

A DSLR camera is a digital camera that allows users to take high quality
images and trader them over to their own computer to begin work on
editing. You can access a DSLR camera from any website such as
amazon and Argos and second-hand websites use as vinted and eBay.
A DSLR camera is important for magazine production and is an
essential part of the process, this is so it can capture the highest
quality images to make the finished magazine product look its best.

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe photoshop is an image editing and manipulation software that
allows you take make any type of adjustment and edits to the
image/product you want to change. You can make edits such as
increasing or decreasing the brightness or saturation of the image
chosen and or edit the text, or even adding filters of colour to your
projects. A DSLR camera ranges between £280 to £2000 depending on
the quality and make of the camera, this makes the camera one of the
most expensive items needed but also the most essential. An Adobe
photoshop subscription can cost £9.98 per month, which is a
reasonable price for an high quality editing software.

Desktop Publishing Software
A desktop publishing software is a software program which is used for
the creating and editing of a magazine, an example of a software is
QuarkXPress it is a software thar is used to help the layout text-based
products. For example, similarly to photoshop, you can add or edit text
and insert a layout for images for the magazine articles and pages. For
the price of the Desktop publishing software it can be quite expensive
with QuarkXPress being £334.80.

Magazine Production Process
Pre-Production - Content
In this stage, the editorial team will meet to collaborate, share ideas
and make decisions on the chosen content. The editor will then assign
articles to the writers, the writers will then plan their assigned articles.
This stage is important, so all the content decisions are made, and
roles and responsibilities are established and followed.

Pre-Production - Flat Planning
At this stage the team goes through the flat plan for that magazine
issue. The flat plan is a page-by-page breakdown of the issue of the
magazine and shows how it will be layout, this helps the editing team
to easily rearrange and discuss the order of the layout. It also gives
the editing team a clear understanding of the text and image
placement, making it easier to adjust lengths and layout.

Production
In the production stage the research should be completed for this
issue with a draft for the articles that have been written already. The
photoshoots would have been one and archive images will be ready
and chosen if necessary.

Production - Writing and Sub-Editing
This stage is essential due to the magazine pages being constructed
and created here, they may use pre-set temples that will conform with
the magazines house style or use a desktop publishing software such
as Quark to make the layout of the images and text. The sub editor
will check for spelling mistakes and grammar and may even cut the
article down if it is too long or even asking the writer to do this step,
they will also write more for the article if it is too short.

Postproduction - Checking Printers Proof
During this stage, the completed magazine pages will be sent to the
publishers so they can make a mock-up of the magazine pages which
is then sent back to the editors. The editors will then check this before
publishing.

Postproduction - Completion and Distribution
In the final stage of production, the editors will give approval their
approval of the final copy. All the copies will then be printed and
produced to then be sent to the distributors.

Sub-editor
A sub-editor in a magazine production ensures that they content is
accurate and clear and is ready for publication. They do this by having
multiple task to complete to ensure everything is ready such as
checking that the article is correct and doesn’t break any laws such as
copyright, errors in grammar, spelling and facts, ensuring it fits the
publication style and layout, and ensure that it is consistent through
the article and to also make sure that the structure of the magazine
and the sentence are adjusted in order to make it easier for the
audience to read.
Photographer
A magazine photographer captures many different photographs for
the specific magazine issue ensuring they align with the magazines
brand and specific editorial style; they use professional camera
equipment to do this. The role in the production process of the
magazine is to plan and execute the photo sessions for things such as
covers, advertisements and article photographs. They also collaborate
with the stylist, make-up artist and art directors to help with what
technical aspects should be used. Alongside this they brainstorm with
the models to ensure they are looking correct for the photos and make
sure they match the magazines tone and what they are publishing. They
also must work under tight deadlines so ensuring their photos are high
quality and submitted on time for print are key.
Journalist
The journalist in the production process in responsible for the written
content of the magazine that informs or persuades the audiences to
read this magazine. To do this they make sure that the articles are
engaging before production. They also do interviews with people who
will feature in the magazine and gather information about them to put
in the specific article. Journalist also make sure that before they write
up the article, they research the specific topic it will be about,
investigation thoroughly to ensure it is accurate and liable.
