PRESENTER: "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Welcome to Waraqa LiTheater! Today,
we invite you to travel across the sea to a land of magic and mystery. Are you ready to hear the
story of Ali Baba? (Wait for kids to cheer). To witness how the magic works, we need your help.
In a count of three, let’s all say the secret words: Open Sesame! Ready? One, two, three...
OPEN SESAME!"
[Sound: A loud 'Gong' or 'Chime'. The lights open.]
SCENE 1: Alibaba saw the 40 thieves
[Setting: A forest. Ali Baba is cutting woods]
NARRATOR: Long ago, in the ancient period of Persia, there lived a poor but very kind
woodcutter named Ali Baba. Every day, he goes to the forest to chop wood and then sell them
to the market to earn.
[Sound: Cutting of woods]
NARRATOR: One day, he went to the forest to cut wood when he suddenly heard the galloping
of many horses. [Sound: Fast galloping horses] There was a troop of 40 men on horseback and
they stopped before a massive rock cliff.
ALI BABA: They have swords and daggers on their waistbands. They are also carrying a lot of
treasure chests… These must be a gang of thieves! What are they doing in this forest?
NARRATOR: One of the thieves who must be their leader came in front of the boulder.
THIEF CAPTAIN: OPEN SESAME!
[Sound: Grinding rocks]
[40 thieves went inside the cave]
ALIBABA: Wow! The rock is moving like a magic gate!
NARRATOR: After some time, the cave opened again and out came the 40 thieves. The thieves
disappeared from the forest and Alibaba was left amused.
ALIBABA: This must be their hideout for their treasure.
NARRATOR: Due to his curiosity, Alibaba couldn't resist entering the cave. So, he stood in front
of the boulder and yelled
ALIBABA: Open Sesame!
[Sound: Grinding rock.]
[The cave opens.]
NARRATOR: Alibaba entered the cave. It was filled with huge piles of gold, silver, and lots of
diamonds which he had never seen before.
ALIBABA: I’ll take some coins. I’m sure the thieves won't even notice it. I will just spend them
for my family’s needs.
[change the picture into Alibaba carrying bags]
NARRATOR: So Alibaba took a few bags of gold and went outside the cave.
ALIBABA: Close Sesame!
[Alibaba went home]
[change the picture into Alibaba standing]
SCENE 2: Cassim knew the secret
(Setting: Ali Baba’s house.)
ALIBABA’S WIFE: Where did you get all the bags of gold coins? Don’t tell me you… you stole
them?
ALIBABA: Oh n-no. I did not steal them. In fact, they are already stolen haha. Well, actually…
While I was cutting wood in the forest, I saw the cave where thieves hide their stolen treasures.
So, out of my curiosity, I went inside and took some bags of gold coins. Hmm can I ask you a
favor?
ALIBABA’S WIFE: What is it, Ali?
ALIBABA: Can you promise me not to tell anyone about this?
ALIBABA’S WIFE: Don’t worry. I'll promise to keep this secret.
NARRATOR: One day, Cassim, Alibaba’s greedy brother went to his house to check on him.
CASSIM: Ali, how are you, my hardworking brother?
ALIBABA: I’m fine, Cassim. Wait, why did you come here all of a sudden?
CASSIM: I just wanted to check on you. Do you need anything? Money or what?
ALIBABA: Thank you for your concern, but I no longer need to borrow money from you.
CASSIM: What do you mean? Are you wealthy now, Ali? How come?
ALIBABA: Well… It’s a long story, my brother. Maybe I'll tell it to you soon.
CASSIM: Then why don’t you just tell it to me now?
NARRATOR: Cassim was too determined to know Alibaba’s secret and demanded his brother
to share it right away. The innocent Alibaba couldn't hold the truth to himself so he told Cassim
about the cave in the forest.
CASSIM: So, what's the magic word to open the cave?
ALIBABA: “Open Sesame!”
CASSIM: Alright, I'll remember that.
SCENE 3: Cassim went to the cave
(Setting: Cave)
NARRATOR: The next morning, Cassim left his house and rushed to the cave.
CASSIM: I will be richer than the richest. Ha ha ha!
[Cassim stood in front of the cave]
CASSIM: Hmm what's the code again? Ah! Open Sesame!
[Sound: Grinding rocks]
NARRATOR: The cave opened and shut behind him. Cassim was amazed with all the treasures
he saw in the cave.
CASSIM: I will take away everything from here. [Cassim laughed]
NARRATOR: Due to his excitement, Cassim forgot the code and got locked inside the cave.
CASSIM: Open…weath? Open door? Can somebody open the door?!
NARRATOR: After a while, Cassim heard the horses tapping. The 40 thieves had come back to
the cave.
[Sound: Galloping horses]
THIEF CAPTAIN: Open Sesame!
NARRATOR: As the door opened, they all found Cassim inside the cave. Without asking him a
single question, they killed him with their long and sharp daggers. Poor Cassim, because of his
greediness, he never got to come back.
[Sound: Sword stabbing]
SCENE 4: Alibaba went back to the cave
NARRATOR: The next morning, Cassim’s wife went to Alibaba’s house.
CASSIM’S WIFE: Alibaba? Alibaba?
ALIBABA: Oh, what brings you here?
CASSIM’S WIFE: Cassim did not come home last night. Do you know where he is?
ALIBABA: He probably went to the cave. Wait, I'll find him.
NARRATOR: Alibaba rushed to the cave to search for his brother. Unfortunately, he found
Cassim’s lifeless body in the cave.
ALIBABA: May Allah forgive my brother… greediness took his soul.
NARRATOR: Alibaba took Cassim’s body and went home to bury him. He arranged everything
quietly, making sure that no one would know what happened to his brother.
SCENE 5: Morgiana
NARRATOR: But soon after, the thieves found out that Cassim’s body is missing.
[the thieves will go outside the cave]
THIEF CHIEF: I’ve also noticed that our stolen treasure is slowly being depleted. We must find
the person behind this.
NARRATOR: So the thieves went to the town to get some information. They found out that
there was someone named Alibaba who was once a poor woodcutter but suddenly became rich.
ONE OF THE THIEVES: I also found out that Alibaba is helping people with the wealth he has.
THIEF CHIEF: Do you know where he lives?
ONE OF THE THIEVES: Yes, Master. We found his house in the center of the town.
THIEF CHIEF: Good. Then we shall go there to find him. I will pretend to be an oil merchant to
get inside his home and take back our treasure!
SCENE 6: The Oil Merchant Visit
[setting: Alibaba’s house]
NARRATOR: The leader of the thieves was determined to find Alibaba. He disguised himself as
an oil merchant and went to his home. He knocked on the door and brought jars that he claimed
were full of olive oil.
THIEF CHIEF: Good evening! I am a merchant from far away. I have jars of olive oil to sell. I
heard you are a wealthy man, would you like to buy them?
ALIBABA: You are most welcome! Please, come in and join us for dinner. You may stay here
for the night.
NARRATOR: While they were eating, Morgiana, Alibaba’s slave, went to the yard and suddenly
heard whispers coming from the jars.
THIEF 1: Is it time yet?
THIEF 2: No, not yet. Let's wait for the signal.
MORGIANNA: Wait, did I hear whispers from the jars?
THIEF 1: Shall we go outside now, Master?
MORGIANNA: [whispers] Oh no, the thieves are hiding inside the jars! I have to do something
so my master and his family will not be hurt.
NARRATOR: Morgiana realized it was a trap. She quickly boiled oil in the kitchen and poured it
into the jars to defeat the thieves.
[Sound: Boiling liquid oil]
SCENE 7: The Final Confrontation
NARRATOR: At midnight, the Thief Chief went to the yard to give the signal to his men.
[Sound: Night ambiance/Crickets]
THIEF CHIEF: (Whispering) Wake up! It’s time!... Why is no one answering? Are you sleeping?
NARRATOR: He opened a jar and was terrified to see his men defeated. Fearing for his life, he
escaped and never returned.
SCENE 8: Ending
NARRATOR: The next morning, Morgiana told Alibaba everything that had happened. They
realized they were finally safe from the thieves.
ALIBABA: Morgiana, you have saved our lives! I know we can't thank you enough but I awe
your wisdom and courage. From now on ,you are no longer our slave, you are now part of our
family.
MORGIANNA: I only did what anyone would do for those they cared for, Master. And being
called as part of your family is more than I dared to hope for.
NARRATOR: So Alibaba and his family lived a life rich not with gold — but a life filled with love
and memories worth more than treasures.
PRESENTER:"And that is the story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves! Remember, kids:
wisdom and a kind heart will always win against greediness! Thank you and see you next time
here at Waraqa LiTheater!
[Sound: Start of Upbeat/Arabic-style Musical Track]
