Volume
Volume is the number of 1 × 1 × 1 cubes that fit inside a solid
object.
We measure volume in cubic units, or units3 because each cube
takes up one unit of space in all three directions length, width,
and height.
1. Split the following solids into visible unit cubes, then count and write the total.
a. b. Each cube is 1 × 1 × 1
centimeter
I. Volume Formula for Right Rectangular Prism
To find the volume of a right rectangular prism, we use this
formula:
Volume = length x width x height
Length (l) is how long the object is.
width (w) (also called breadth) is how wide it is.
Height (h) is how tall it is.
Example: Find the volume of the rectangular prism.
Volume = length x width x height
= 8 x 5 x 10
= 400
The volume of this right rectangular prism is 400 cm3.

2. Find the volume of rectangular prism with length(l) = 8 cm, width(w) = 5 cm and height(h)=2 cm.
3. Find the volume of rectangular prism with length(l) = 24 mm, width(w) = 12 mm and height(h)=7 mm.
II. Finding Missing Edge: If you know the volume of a rectangular prism and two of its sides, you can find the
missing edge using the volume formula:
V = length x width x height
If one side is missing, you can solve for it by dividing the volume by the product of the other two sides.
Example: A box has a volume of 240 cm³. Its length is 10 cm and height is 6 cm. Find the width of the box.
Volume 240 240
Width of the box = = = =4 cm
length ×height 10 × 6 60
Width of the box is 4 cm.
4. A box has a volume of 360 cm³. Its length is 12 cm and breadth is 5 cm. What is the height?
5. A rectangular prism has a volume of 480 cm³. Its breadth is 8 cm and height is 5 cm.
What is the length?
