Week Four Assignment: Review and Presentation of a Machine Learning
Paper
Objective:
Individually select, review, and present a journal paper, conference paper, or book
chapter that aligns with your Machine Learning project topic. Focus on the
computational problem addressed, the machine learning models developed, and the
model evaluation approaches used in the paper.
Instructions:
1. Paper Selection:
Identify a paper that directly relates to your Machine Learning topic.
Ensure the paper is either a journal article, conference paper, or book
chapter.
Avoid review papers or survey papers.
Title and Keywords: Write out the paper's title and at most 5 keywords.
2. Paper Review:
Focus your review on:
The computational problem tackled by the authors.
The machine learning models developed.
The approaches used for model evaluation.
Highlight the thought process of the paper authors.
3. Presentation Preparation:
Create a PowerPoint presentation that covers:
The problem researchers aimed to solve.
Machine learning models used.
Model evaluation metrics applied.
Strengths and weaknesses of the models and evaluation
metrics.
The presentation should not exceed 8 minutes.
4. Video Recording:
Record a video of your presentation. ( 8 minutes max)
Ensure the video is clear, audible, and adheres to the time limit.
5. Submission:
Upload your presentation slides, the video link, and the link to the
paper reviewed to the specified Google Form:

Ensure no repetition of papers within group members (each
group member should review their own unique paper).
Hints and Pointers:
Paper Selection: Use reputable databases like IEEE Xplore, Springer,
Elsevier, or Google Scholar for your search.
Review Focus: Pay special attention to the methodology section for insights
into the models and evaluation metrics.
Presentation Tips: Use visuals from the paper (with proper citations) to
enhance your presentation. Practice delivering your content within the time
limit.
Critical Analysis: Consider the paper's context, such as data used,
assumptions made, and potential biases, when discussing strengths and
weaknesses.
Assessment Metrics:
Relevance: Alignment of the selected paper with the student’s Machine
Learning topic.
Comprehensiveness: Depth of the review, covering problem, models, and
evaluation approaches.
Critical Analysis: Insightfulness of the discussion on model strengths,
weaknesses, and evaluation metrics.
Presentation Quality: Clarity, organization, adherence to time limit.
Originality: Ability to provide unique insights beyond the paper's content
(10%).
This assignment is designed to deepen your understanding of specific machine
learning applications and to enhance your ability to critically analyze and articulate
complex computational concepts. Pay close attention to the assignment
requirements to ensure a comprehensive and insightful review and presentation.
