RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Research Design
The research design adopted a survey research design, a survey research is one in which a
group of people or items are studies by collecting and analyzing data from only a few
people or items considered to be representatives of the entire group. The survey research
design according to Akuezuillo (2018) described and interpret what is, and seeks to find
out the condition or relationship that exists, opinion that are evident to trends that are
developing this design is considered best for this study because the researcher was
interested in social studies teachers perception on the use of instructional resources in the
teaching and learning of social studies in some selected junior secondary school in Okene
Local Government area of Kogi state.
3.2 Population of the study
The population of this study includes all the social studies teachers in the selected
junior secondary school in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.
3.3 Sample and sampling technique
The sample of this research work is social studies teachers in ten selected
junior secondary schools in Okene Local Government area of Kogi state
The name of these schools includes:
1. Abdulaziz Atta Memorial College Okene
2. Ebira community Secondary School, Ogaminana
3. Solardad Group of School GRA Okene
4. LGEA School Etahi Okene
5. Okehi Community Secondary School
6. Government Secondary School, Okene
7. Government Day Secondary School Okene
8. Divine Academy Secondary School

9. Al-Hidaya Islami Group of School, Okengwe
10. Al-Manaar Basic Academy, Okene
A total of thirty (30) teachers consist the sample, three (3) from each of the above
mention schools. The random sampling technique was used in which every social
studies teacher in all the school have equal opportunity of being selected
3.4 Research Instrument
A well-structured questionnaire which was carefully developed by the researcher was used
in collecting information relevant to the study. The questionnaire consists of two (2)
section meant to be answered by the students. The first section comprises of the student
personal details and the second consisted of twenty (20) questions and were strictly
designed for the teachers to cover the social studies teachers perception on the use of
instructional resources in the teaching and learning of social studies in some selected
junior secondary school in Okene Local Government area of Kogi state
It was stated on the questionnaire that responses were strictly for academic purpose
and shall be treated confidentially, the teacher were to tick the appropriate column of
either YES ( ) or NO ( )
3.5 Validation of Research Instrument
The research instrument was validated by the researcher supervisor, a lecturer from the
department of Social studies Department
3.6 Procedure for Data Collection
The schools were visited by the researcher and permission to the social studies
teachers were sought from the principal of the ten secondary schools sampled for the
study
Thirty (30) questionnaire were prepared which were distributed by hands in each of
the ten (10) schools in the Local Government Area
They were also collected after completion and on the whole, the researcher was able to
get back the completed questionnaire completely

3.7 Procedure for data Analysis
The questionnaire that were duly completed were used for data analysis using simple
percentage, (%) and a frequency percentage table was constructed and used to show
the result.
