Question 1: Find the voltage across the 50 Ω resistor in steady state

R1 and R2 are varied till the bridge is balanced. Find the unknown coil parameters.

Question 3: An industrial coil is modeled as series R and L. Measurements are done at f


= 50 Hz with an ac voltmeter. Given |Vs | = 145 V, |V1 | = 50 V and |Vo | = 110 V. Determine

Question 4: A coupling capacitor is used to block dc current from an amplifier to a


speaker. The circuit is shown.

i) At what frequency maximum power is transferred to the speaker?

Question 5: A factory has four major loads in shunt:

i) Motor rated at 3.68 kW, pf 0.8 lagging,

ii) Heater rated at 1.2 kW, pf unity,

iv) 10 light bulbs, 120 W each.

Calculate the total real and reactive power. Draw the power triangle. Find the overall power
factor.

Question 6: A 120V rms 60 Hz source supplies two loads connected in parallel:

i) 24 kW, pf 0.8 lagging,

ii) 40 kW, pf 0.95 lagging

Find the power factor of the parallel combination. Calculate the value of the capacitance
connected in parallel that will raise the power factor to unity.
Answer: pf = 0.89 lagging, C = 5.72 mF
Question 7: A series circuit consists of 0.5 µF capacitor, a coil of inductance 0.32 H and
resistance 40Ω and a 20 Ω non-inductive resistor. The circuit is supplied using an AC voltage
source of 30 V and 398 Hz. calculate the values of following:

• The potential difference across each of the three component,

• The current flowing in the circuit,

• The active power absorbed by the circuit.

Answer: a) 400.5∠87.190 , b) 0.5 A, c) 15W

Question 8: Solve for V0 in the circuit shown in Fig.5 using mesh analysis.
