Advertising
Advertising is the promotion of a media product to a specific target audience. Advertisements
have specific characteristics, elements and features that are all designed to appeal to and
attract the target audience.
Advertisements are a way that companies ensure that their product is successful in engaging
the target audience and they also help the company with generating income.
There are four key formats of advertisements. Those formats are:
-Web (online advertisements such as social media platforms and web banners).
-Print (physical advertisements such as posters).
-Audio (spoken advertisements such as on radios and podcasts).
-Video (online adverts that are videos rather than photos, such as TV adverts).

This is an advert on Classic Rock’s official facebook account that is promoting a limited
edition issue of the magazine that is a collaboration with Alter Bridge. This advertisement
will appeal to a specific audience as it is catered to fans of the band as well as the magazine,
potentially attracting new customers who are fans of Alter Bridge. The advertisement also
promotes the bundle that comes with the magazine, and by using words such as ‘’exclusive’’
when referring to the items in the bundle, the advertisement becomes even more appealing to
the audience. This advertisement also promotes the band’s new album, further attracting fans
of the band and potentially appealing to a wider audience.

This advertisement is found on Classic Rock’s official X page. It promotes a new issue of the
magazine by highlighting the main image of the issue, which is Phil Lynott. His name is
repeated multiple times in this advertisement, making it clear to the audience what the
magazine issue is mainly about. By saying ‘’only in the new issue of Classic Rock,’’ they are
making an appeal to the fans of Phil Lynott, this is because they are attracting attention by
implying that there is exclusive content based around him and his band that can’t be found
anywhere else. By also including an image of the magazine issue’s cover, they have made it
easy for the audience to remember what it looks like so that they can buy it from the shop
when they see it. This advertisement focuses purely on Phil Lynott, so the rest of the content
of the magazine is not known until read by the audience, apart from the minimal information
on the coverlines and skyline in the image of the magazine’s cover. This may help to attract
more people as they will become curious as to what other content is included in the magazine
issue.
Advert 3

This is a video advertisement from Classic Rock’s official youtube account. This is an
advertisement for a magazine issue. Not only does this advertisement show the issue, but it
also displays the name of their website. This advertisement will appeal to fans of AC/DC, as
the main image and main coverline on this issue is AC/DC. The video starts with an
extremely zoomed in image of the magazine issue, which will spark interest from people
wanting to know what the issue is. Additionally, this advertisement will attract people who
don’t have the time to go out and buy an issue, as it mentions all of the electronic devices that
the magazine is available to purchase and read on. This will potentially appeal to a wider
audience, as more people prefer to read things electronically, as well as in print.
