1. INTRODUCTION
The Airline Management System is a Java-based application developed to manage and simplify
the operations of an airline. The main purpose of this system is to automate tasks such as flight
management, passenger registration, ticket booking, and reservation handling. In traditional
systems, these tasks are often done manually, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors.
This project aims to provide a computerized solution to make airline operations faster, more
accurate, and efficient.
The system allows administrators to manage flight details, schedules, and passenger records,
while users can view available flights and book tickets easily. By using Java programming, the
system provides a simple interface and efficient data handling to manage airline information.
This project helps demonstrate the practical implementation of programming concepts such as
object-oriented programming, data management, and user interaction using Java. It provides a
basic model of how airline reservation and management systems work in real-world applications.
2. OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the Airline Management System is to develop a computerized system that
helps in managing the various activities involved in airline operations. This system aims to
replace the traditional manual methods used for managing flight information, passenger records,
and ticket reservations. By using a digital system, airline operations can be performed more
efficiently, and the chances of errors that usually occur in manual systems can be reduced. The
system is designed to store and manage data related to flights, passengers, and bookings in an
organized manner.
Another important objective of the system is to make the process of flight booking easier and
faster for users. The system allows users to view available flights, check schedules, and reserve
tickets conveniently. At the same time, it helps administrators manage flight schedules, update
flight details, and keep track of passenger information. This improves the overall management of
airline services and ensures that information is maintained accurately.
In addition, the project aims to demonstrate the practical implementation of Java programming
concepts in developing a real-world application. It helps students understand how programming
techniques, especially object-oriented programming, can be applied to solve real-life
management problems. Overall, the Airline Management System is developed to improve
efficiency, reduce manual workload, and provide a structured way of managing airline
operations.
3. SYSTEM ANALYSIS
3.1 IDENTIFICATION OF NEED
With the rapid growth of the airline industry, managing airline operations manually has become
difficult and inefficient. Traditional methods of handling flight schedules, passenger records, and
ticket reservations require a large amount of paperwork and human effort. These manual
processes often lead to errors, delays, and difficulties in maintaining accurate records. Therefore,
there is a need for a computerized system that can efficiently manage airline operations and store
large amounts of data in an organized manner.
The Airline Management System is developed to address these issues by providing a digital
platform for managing airline activities such as flight scheduling, ticket booking, passenger
information, and reservation management. This system helps reduce the complexity involved in
manual record-keeping and allows airline staff to access and update information quickly and
accurately. It also improves communication and coordination between different airline
departments.
Furthermore, the need for such a system arises from the increasing number of passengers and
flights that airlines must handle daily. A computerized management system ensures faster
processing of information, better data security, and improved efficiency in airline services. By
implementing this system, airlines can manage their operations more effectively and provide
better service to passengers.
3.2 PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION
The preliminary investigation is the first step in the development of the Airline Management
System. In this phase, the existing system used for managing airline operations is studied
carefully to understand its working process, limitations, and problems. Many airline management
tasks such as maintaining flight records, managing passenger details, and booking tickets are
often handled manually or through outdated systems. These methods can be time-consuming,
less efficient, and more prone to human errors.
During the investigation, information is collected about the current procedures used in airline
operations. The study focuses on how flight schedules are maintained, how passenger data is
recorded, and how ticket reservations are processed. It also helps identify the difficulties faced
by staff and users, such as delays in retrieving information, errors in record keeping, and the lack
of a centralized system to manage all airline-related data.
Based on this investigation, it becomes clear that there is a need for a computerized Airline
Management System that can automate these tasks. The proposed system aims to simplify airline
operations by providing an efficient and organized way to store and manage flight and passenger
information. The investigation helps determine the requirements of the system and provides a
foundation for designing and developing the new application using Java.
3.3 FEASIBILITY STUDY
The feasibility study is an important step in the development of the Airline Management System.
It is conducted to determine whether the proposed system is practical, beneficial, and possible to
implement. This study evaluates different aspects of the system such as technical requirements,
cost, and operational benefits. The main purpose of this phase is to ensure that the system can be
successfully developed and used without major difficulties.
From a technical perspective, the system is feasible because it can be developed using Java
programming language and standard computer systems. The required software and hardware
resources are easily available and do not require any advanced or expensive technology. Java
provides the necessary tools and features to develop a reliable and user-friendly application that
can manage airline data efficiently.
From an economic point of view, the system is also feasible because it reduces the cost
associated with manual record keeping and excessive paperwork. A computerized system can
store large amounts of data digitally, which minimizes administrative work and improves
efficiency. Additionally, the system can help airlines save time and resources by automating
various operations.
From an operational perspective, the Airline Management System is feasible because it
improves the overall functioning of airline operations. It allows staff to manage flight schedules,
passenger records, and ticket bookings quickly and accurately. The system is designed to be
simple and easy to use, which makes it convenient for both administrators and users. Overall, the
feasibility study shows that the proposed system is practical, cost-effective, and beneficial for
managing airline operations.
