Zero Hunger
Zero Hunger means:
• providing enough food for all people
• improving nutrition
• developing sustainable agriculture
Zero Hunger is the second UN
Sustainable Development Goal. Its
primary objective is to completely
eliminate hunger in the world by 2030.
Why is the problem of
hunger important?
Today, millions of people
around the world suffer from
malnutrition. Hunger impacts
health, child development, and
educational attainment.
Malnutrition can lead to illness
and even death.
Causes of hunger
The main causes of hunger are:
• poverty
• wars and conflicts
• climate change
• inequality
• large amounts of food waste
HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORLDWIDE
DON'T GET ENOUGH FOOD.
-EVERY YEAR, HUGE AMOUNTS OF FOOD ARE WASTED,
EVEN THOUGH IT COULD BE USED.
-CLIMATE CHANGE IS MAKING IT MORE DIFFICULT TO GROW FOOD.
What can we do?
• Support local producers and
farmers to promote sustainable
agriculture.
• Participate in school and city eco-
projects, charity events, and
fundraising for those in need.
• Develop a culture of respect for
resources – water, land, the work of
people who grow food.
• Develop a culture of respect for
resources – water, land, the work of
people who grow food.
The real consequences of hunger:
-In some countries, children
die from severe malnutrition.
Their bodies simply don't get
enough protein and vitamins.
- Poverty and hunger make
people vulnerable to
exploitation - they can be
tricked into hard and
dangerous labor.
-In conflict zones, people can
go for weeks without proper
food, drink dirty water and
suffer from disease.
What is the UN doing
now to fight hunger?
-Through the World Food
Programme (WFP), it supplies
food to countries experiencing
wars, droughts and crises.
- Helps countries combat the
effects of climate change on
crop yields.
-Supports farmers in poor
countries by teaching modern
cultivation methods and
sustainable farming.
