5.2 Conclusion
Christotherapy, an innovative and growing approach in pastoral counselling, has been explored
as a valuable technique in handling sexual immorality, particularly for pastors. The research
examined how Christotherapy could strengthen counselling sessions with sexual immorality
victims, pastors, by addressing issues that lead to sexual temptation, such as lack of
accountability and moral discipline, stress from the ministry demands, loneliness and emotional
fatigue of the pastor, and the lack of preventive counselling by the church. In this thesis, the
application of Christotherapy was found to provide counsellors with insightful resources that
could improve accountability and moral discipline, and re-establish the spiritual foundation of
pastoral ministry.
This thesis was built on an extensive review of existing literature, showing that
Christotherapy has a significant potential to enhance pastoral discipline, moral and ethical
discipline, self-openness, spiritual sensibility, and Christ-centred lifestyle. Using Christ methods,
both counsellor and counsellee will reflect on their personal development and place in Christ’s
redemption plans, leading to a deeper understanding of themselves in line with the purpose of
their called to ministry, and their roles in the salvation of Christ to the whole world. The Christ
method, deeply embedded in Christian counselling, was integral to the approach, encouraging
pastoral counsellor, and pastors to turn to the person of Jesus Christ in all counselling sessions,
for the purpose of restoration of souls and healing of the sexually wounded.
Results from case studies and practical applications of Christotherapy in handling sexual
immorality among pastors reveal that pastors who engaged with Christotherapist reported
improved psychologically, spiritual healed, emotional strengthens, developed better
accountability structure, ways of managing loneliness and stress, and a strategies of promoting
preventive counselling in the church. Overall, Christotherapy proved to be a valuable tool in the
management and handling of sexual immorality victims by providing ways of accountability and
moral discipline, commitment and love to spouse, and building spiritual sensibility and
preventive majors to safeguard sexual temptation. This approach is a theoretical framework and a
practical and holistic solution from addressing sexual challenges that pastors often encounter.
5.3 Recommendations
Promote Christotherapy as a Standard Practice in Handling Sexual Immorality: Pastors
and counsellors, counselling centres, especially those handling sexual immoralities among
pastors, should consider incorporating Christotherapy as a standard practice in handling sexual
misconduct. This approach can provide pastors will a broad set of tools, combining
psychological, emotional, and spiritual resources to address and restores sexual immorality
victims holistically.
Develop Comprehensive Christotherapy Resources Kits for Christian Couples: It is
recommended that specific Christotherapy resource kits tailored to the needs of pastors be
developed and distributed. These kits should include Christotherapy books, devotional guides
that point to the person of Christ in handling human brokenness, scripture references of passages
that shows Christ handling human brokenness, and discussion guides that address common
sexual immorality issues and how it could be handled holistically. These resources should be
carefully curated to reflect psychological principles and Christ methods.
Train Counsellors in the Use of Christotherapy: Counsellors should undergo specialised
training in Christotherapy techniques, especially in Pastoral care and counselling. Understanding
how to select and use Christ method appropriate and guide pastors through Christotherapy
exercises will ensure the method is implemented effectively. Training should also cover
integrating psychological theories and spiritual insights. This will help pastors combine both
psychological and spiritual principles in counselling sessions.
Encourage Personal Commitment and Knowledge of the Person of Christ: it is
recommended that pastors should have a personal commitment and knowledge of the person of
Christ to them. As Lord and Saviour, and as the owner of the ministry and flocks that pastor are
pastoring. This will not only register in the heart of the pastors, but it will also help live a life
worthy of their called. It will also inform regular check on their life and ministry, which will help
them to reflect whenever they are tempted with sexual temptation.
Measure the Effectiveness of Christotherapy Through Longitudinal Studies: While the
initial findings of this study suggest the effectiveness of Christotherapy in handling sexual
immorality, further research is needed to assess the long-term effects. Longitudinal studies that
track pastors’ progress over time would provide deeper insights into the sustainability of
Christotherapy’s impact on pastoral accountability and moral discipline, emotional wholeness,
and spiritual growth.
Incorporate Christotherapy in Secular Settings: Although this study focused on Pastors
and Pastoral care and counselling, the principles of Christotherapy can be adapted for secular
counselling contexts by using Christ method on how He handled the brokenness of those who are
not His disciples of followers. A Christotherapy to secular setting should be offered to
counsellees either they are Christians or non-Christians, who come to Christian counsellors or
Pastoral care and counselling counsellors, it can benefit them from an inclusive approach
emphasising the uniqueness of Christ love for all.
Foster Peer Support and Community Groups for Christotherapy: To maximise the
benefits of Christotherapy, pastors should be encouraged to participate in peer support groups
where they can share experiences, discuss the Christ methods, and offer mutual encouragement.
Church-based or community-driven group can serve as a platform for ongoing discussion and
support, allowing pastors to grow spiritually, while supporting those who fall into such sins of
immorality.
