III. Workout the following questions with necessary steps

1. Three blocks of mass m1, m2 and m3 interconnected by cords are pulled by a constant
force F on a frictionless horizontal table, Fig. shown. Find

(b) Tensions T1 and T2
2. A block of mass M on a rough horizontal table is driven by another block of mass m
connected by a thread passing over a frictionless pulley. Assuming that the coefficient of
friction between the mass M and the table is μ, find

(a) Acceleration of the masses (b) Tension in the thread (Fig. below).

3. A block of mass m1 sits on a block of mass m2, which rests on a smooth table, (Fig.
below). If the coefficient of friction between the blocks is μ, find the maximum force that
can be applied to m2 so that m1 may not slide.

4. A traffic light weighing 100 N hangs from a vertical cable tied to two other cables that are
fastened to a support. The upper cables make angles of 37° and 53° with the horizontal.
Find the tension in each of the three cables.
