The Sea Dragon 2025 naval exercise, a key multilateral maritime warfare drill,
commenced off the Guam coast in the western Pacific Ocean and will be held from
March 4 to March 19, 2025. This high-intensity Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)
exercise is hosted by the United States(US) Navy’s 7th Fleet and involves the Indian
Navy (IN), Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), Royal Australian Air Force
(RAAF), and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

The exercise aims to develop ASW techniques, resulting in increased defence

preparation and coordination among participating nations.

Background:
[Link] exercise began in 2019 as a joint exercise between the US Navy and RAAF.
Since 2019, the exercise has been held annually.
[Link] 2020, the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN), the ROKN (South Korea), and the
JMSDF participated in the exercise.
[Link] Quad members, India, Australia, Japan, and the United States of
America(USA) as well as the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the ROKN took
part in the exercises in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
[Link] 2024 exercise became a Quad plus South Korean exercise when the RCAF was
not invited.
About Exercise Sea Dragon 2025:
[Link] the exercise, each participating country deploys its Maritime Patrol and
Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) to detect and track submarines, thereby improving
collective maritime security capabilities.

The IN by deploying its advanced P-8I MPRA, manufactured by Boeing(USA).

[Link] exercise includes simulated ASW drills, tactical discussions, and practical
submarine detection training.
[Link] and aircrew from each participating nation work together, exchanging
strategies and coordinating efforts to improve their skills in tracking and neutralizing
submarines.
Aim of the Exercise:

Improve tactical coordination among the participating navies.

Strengthen ASW capabilities.

Enhance maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Simulate the hunting of a US Navy submarine.

Foster military cooperation among allied forces.

Dragon Belt award:

During the exercise, participating countries will receive grades based on their
performance in several events. The country which earned maximum points will be
awarded the Dragon Belt award.

The JMSDF has won the Dragon Belt award in 2024.

ITB Berlin 2025 held from March 4 to March 6, 2025 in Berlin, Germany

Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB Berlin 2025), one of world’s largest

travel fairs was held from March 4 to March 6, 2025 held at Berlin Expo Center City
at Messedamm in Berlin, Germany. The motto of this year’s convention is ‘The
Power of Transition Lives here’.

The convention attracted 24,000 visitors, participating in 4 stages with a total of

17 themed tracks in 2024.

Glass-Ceiling Index: Top 10 Best Countries for Working Women in 2025

London (the United Kingdom, UK)-based The Economist Group, a media company
released its annual edition of ‘Glass-Ceiling Index (GCI)’ on the occasion of
International Women’s Day (IWD) which is celebrated annually on March 8
worldwide. As per the index, Sweden secured 1st position globally, and has replaced
Iceland which topped the index for the last two consecutive years.

Now, Iceland witnessed dropped in its ranking by one place i.e. from 1st spot (in
2024) to 2nd spot (in 2025).

Among top 10 best countries for working women in 2025, 5 are Nordic countries:
Sweden, Iceland, Finland (3rd), Norway (4th) and Denmark (9th).

[Link] index evaluated the working conditions for women across the 29 countries that
are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD).
[Link] Zealand emerged as the improved country on the index, moving up by 8
places to 6th spot.
[Link] 3 countries on the index are: Japan (27th), South Korea (28th) and
Turkey (29th).

The report cited these 3 countries are influenced by deep-rooted societal norms
and wage gap, which are the main factors for under-representation of women in
leadership roles.

Indian Navy’s 1st Training Squadron Completes Thailand Visit

In March 2025, the Indian Navy’s (IN) First Training Squadron (1TS), consisting of
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sujata, INS Shardul, and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS)
Veera, successfully concluded its visit to Phuket Deep Sea Port in Thailand. The visit
concluded on a high note with coordinated tactical maneuvers and an exchange of
sea riders during a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with His Thai Majesty’s Ship (HTMS)
Huahin, a patrol gunboat of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN).

The visit strengthened the robust bilateral relations between IN and RTN, in line
with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.

It boosted maritime cooperation, interoperability, and mutual understanding,

further contributing to the regional security and stability of both nations.

[Link] visit, which started on March 1, 2025, was part of the 1TS’s ongoing training
deployment to South East Asia and concluded on March 4, 2025.

WMO Launches iClimate Action Project to Boost Global Climate Intelligence

In March 2025, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in collaboration with
the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), the Group on Earth Observations
(GEO), and the European Commission, launched
the iClimateAction project in Geneva, Switzerland.

The initiative is backed by

the Horizon Europe Work
Programme 2023-2025, which aims
to address critical gaps in Earth
observation and enhance global
climate resilience.

It coincides with WMO’s 75th

anniversary on March 23, 2025,
highlighting the organization’s
commitment to science-driven
innovation and global collaboration.

[Link] iClimateAction project, funded with 3 million Euros from the European
Commission, aims to enhance coordination and synergy among GCOS, GEO, and
WMO, improving international alignment in the creation, management, and use of
climate data.
[Link] tackles fragmentation in climate data collection and access by standardizing
Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and enhancing compatibility across observation
networks, making climate data more accessible and useful for scientists,
policymakers, and communities worldwide.
[Link] supports key initiatives like Early Warnings for All, the Global Greenhouse Gas
Watch, and GEO projects such as the Global Heat Resilience Service and the Global
Ecosystems Atlas, transforming climate data into life-saving strategies.

CIL Signs MoU with IIT Hyderabad to Establish CLEANZ in Telangana

In March 2025, Kolkata (West Bengal, WB) based Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology of
Hyderabad (IIT-Hyderabad), Telangana for establishing a Centre of Clean Coal
Energy and Net Zero (CLEANZ) in Hyderabad.

The MoU was exchanged between P M Prasad, Chairman and Managing

Director(CMD) of CIL and Acharya B S Murthy, director of IIT-H in the presence of
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Coal (MoC) and Ministry of Mines
(MoM).

[Link] initiative aims to develop clean coal technologies and diversify coal
consumption. Both entities will work together to establish cutting-edge technological
readiness levels (TRLs) for the long-term use of Indian coal.
[Link] management of CIL has approved a five-year grant of Rs 98 crores to IIT
Hyderabad for a five-year period for the establishment of this Center of Excellence.
After the initial five-year investment from CIL, it is expected to achieve financial
sustainability in the long term.
[Link] collaboration is part of the National Centre for Coal and Energy Research
(NaCCER), an independent Research and Development (R&D) unit of the Central
Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI), which serves as CIL’s mine development
and consultancy arm.

Brand Finance Insurance 100 – 2025: LIC Ranks 3rd Among World’s
Strongest Insurance Brands

According to the Brand Finance Insurance 100 – 2025 report, the Life Insurance
Corporation of India (LIC), headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been ranked
third among the world’s strongest insurance brands, achieving a Brand Strength
Index (BSI) score of 88 out of 100. In terms of overall brand value, LIC holds the
12th position globally among the most valuable insurance brands.

Poland-based PZU, has secured the top position among the world’s strongest
insurance brands with a BSI score of 94.4 with AAA+ brand rating. It is followed
by China Life Insurance (AAA+ brand rating) which holds the second position
with a BSI score of 93.5.

The report highlights that the top 100 insurance brands have witnessed a 9%
increase in brand value in 2025, driven by factors such as better underwriting
performance, higher investment income, rising interest rates (IR), and improved
profitability.

most valuable and strongest insurance brands based on their market performance
and brand strength.

Honda Motor Company Limited Appoints Takashi Nakajima as New President

& CEO of HCIL

On 10 March 2025, Tokyo (Japan) based Honda Motor Company Limited appointed
Takashi Nakajima as the new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
Noida (Uttar Pradesh, UP) based Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) effective from 1
April 2025.

He will succeed Takuya Tsumura, who moves to Honda’s head office in Japan
after completing his tenure in India.

[Link] Nakajima joined Honda in 1994 and has been there for more than 30 years.
He has held various positions in business planning, product planning, marketing, and
sales promotion in countries like Japan, China, Spain, the Czech Republic, and

time, by Defeating Iran

On March 8, 2025, the Indian women’s Kabaddi team won the ‘6th Edition of Asian
Women’s Kabaddi Championship title’ by defeating Iran women’s Kabaddi team 32-
25 in the final held in Tehran, Iran. The victory marked India’s 5th win in the
history of the tournament, having previously won in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2017
except in 2016 where South Korea claimed the title.

The Indian Team was Led by captain Sonali Shingate as the defending
champion.

2025, in Tehran, with 7 teams competing.

It was the 3rd time that Iran was hosting the Asian Women’s Kabaddi

Renowned Classical Singer Garimella Balakrishna Prasad Passed Away

In March 2025, Renowned classical singer and former Asthana Vidwan of the
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Garimella Balakrishna Prasad passed away
in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh (AP). He was born on 9 November 1948 in Rajahmundry,
AP.

He was awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2020 for his
outstanding contributions to Indian classical music.

Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Tirupati, AP.

Karnataka CM Siddarmaiah Presented Rs 4.09 Lakh Crore Budget for FY26

In March 2025, the Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka Siddaramaiah presented his
16th budget worth Rs 4.09 lakh crore(Rs 4,09,549 crore) for Financial Year 2025-
26(FY26) at the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The budget
outlay for FY26 marked an increase of 12% i.e. Rs 3.65 lakh crore in Revised
Estimates (RE) for FY25.

The budget for FY26 will focus on implementing programmes across 6 key
developmental fields: welfare programmes budget, agriculture and rural
development budget, development-oriented budget, prioritizing urban
development, investment and job creation and governance reforms.

The budget has allocated Rs 51,034 crore for the state government’s 5
guarantee schemes, a decrease from Rs 56,000 crore allocated for the scheme in
FY25.

[Link] total receipts are estimated at Rs 4,08,647 crore for FY26 (marking an
increase of 13.9% compared to Revised Estimate (RE) for FY25), of which revenue
receipts are estimated at Rs 2,92,477 crore, including state’s tax revenue (Rs
2,08,100 crore), non-tax revenue (Rs 16,500 crore) and central government funds
(Rs 67,877 crore).
[Link] remains to be a major contributor to India’s Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) representing 8.4% of India’s GDP. The state’s GDP is projected to grow at
7.4% in FY25.
[Link] budget has allocated Rs 51,339 crore for the agriculture sector for FY26,
compared to Rs 44,000 allocated in last fiscal year.

Rs 45,286 crore has been allocated for the education sector for FY26, which
accounts 10% of the total budget outlay.

Punjab Govt Launches ‘Project Hifazat’ to Ensure Women, and Child Safety
In March 2025, the Government of Punjab launched Project Hifazat to protect
women from violence on the eve of International Women’s Day – March 8. The
Project was launched by Dr Baljit Kaur, Minister of Social Security, Women, and
Child Development of Punjab in Chandigarh, Punjab.

The initiative aims to enhance the response system and establish a secure setting
for reporting instances of domestic abuse and harassment, with the 181 helplines
easily accessible.

[Link] project seeks to eliminate the fear of women that prevents from reporting
domestic violence, workplace harassment, or any other form of abuse
[Link] Women Helpline (181) and Child Helpline (1098) will operate 24/7 under
“Mission Shakti” and “Mission Vatsalya,” guaranteeing access to both emergency
and non-emergency services.

Emergency cases will be directly transferred to the Emergency Response Support

System (ERSS-112) for immediate action.

Family Welfare, Punjab Police, Women and Child Development, and the Department
