Online Learning – A Boon or a Bane?
By Aditi Sharma
The rise of online learning, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, has transformed
the way education is delivered across the globe. With schools and colleges shut for months,
digital platforms became the only means to continue the teaching-learning process. But
is online learning truly a boon, or does it come with hidden challenges?
On the positive side, online education offers flexibility. Students can attend classes from
the comfort of their homes, access recorded lectures anytime, and use digital tools to
enhance their understanding. It has also opened doors to learning beyond the classroom,
enabling access to courses and experts from around the world.
However, the drawbacks cannot be ignored. Not all students have access to good internet
connectivity or personal devices, especially in rural areas. Prolonged screen time leads to
eye strain, poor posture, and mental fatigue. Many students also report a lack of
motivation and reduced personal interaction with teachers and peers, which affects their
learning and emotional [Link], online learning cannot fully replicate the
experience of classroom discussions, hands-on activities, or co-curricular engagement.
In conclusion, online learning is a powerful tool that has proven its value in difficult times.
However, it should not replace traditional learning entirely. A blended approach,
combining the strengths of both online and offline methods, is the way forward to ensure
inclusive, effective, and holistic education.

park, and local market area.

benches, removed posters from walls, and planted saplings. Informative posters and slogans
such as “Clean India, Green India” were also displayed to spread awareness among local
