Video 1: Ship Reporting to VTS

Learning about ship reporting to VTS made me realize how important


proper communication is in ensuring safety at sea. Before studying this
topic, I only thought of VTS as a monitoring station, but I now understand
that it plays a very important role in organizing vessel movements and
preventing accidents in busy waters. By reporting the ship’s position,
course, speed, and intentions, the vessel becomes part of a monitored
traffic system that helps maintain order among ships. Reflecting on this, I
learned that as a future seafarer I must be responsible and confident when
communicating through the radio. Clear and accurate reporting to VTS is
not just a requirement but also a responsibility that contributes to the
safety of the ship, crew, and other vessels navigating in the same area.

Video 2: Ship Reporting to Pilot

When I learned about ship reporting to the pilot station, I realized that it is
not just a simple communication procedure but an important preparation
before entering a port or restricted waters. Reporting the vessel’s details
such as ETA, draft, and other necessary information allows the pilot to
properly prepare for boarding and assist the ship safely. Reflecting on this
topic made me understand the importance of coordination between the
bridge team and the pilot. It also showed me that teamwork and
preparation are essential to ensure safe maneuvering of the vessel when
approaching the port. As a maritime student, this reflection reminded me
that proper reporting and communication can make port operations safer
and more efficient.

Video 3: Singapore and Malacca Strait

Studying the Singapore and Malacca Strait made me realize how


challenging navigation can be in one of the busiest shipping routes in the
world. Because of the large number of vessels passing through this area
every day, strict navigation rules, traffic separation schemes, and
reporting systems are necessary to maintain order and safety. Reflecting
on this topic helped me understand that navigating in congested waters
requires full concentration, proper lookout, and strong knowledge of
maritime regulations. It also reminded me that even a small mistake in
such a busy waterway can lead to serious accidents. As a future seafarer,
learning about the Singapore and Malacca Strait prepared me to become
more aware, responsible, and careful when navigating in high-traffic
areas.
