INVITATIONS (Single recipient)
(Letter format to be followed as it is directed to one person)
Formal Invitations: This is more often to invite a dignitary for a formal event
in your official capacity (as a representative of an organization/association)
i.e. invite them to be the ‘Chief Guest’ or ‘Guest of honour’. Therefore, the
formal letter format is used for such invitations.
Informal Invitations: This is to invite a friend or a relative for a household
event like a dinner party, house-warming event, festival celebration at home
etc. Therefore, the informal letter format is used in such cases.
Important: Formal letter has receiver’s address and a subject while an
informal letter doesn’t have these. Also, the language used is formal in the
former case (first person reference and short-forms are avoided).
The informal invitation has informal language (receiver’s address and
subject-line are NOT to be written in this format).
