• Outdoor Pleasant Writing Guide
• Your Goal:
• Write a descriptive paragraph about a pleasant outdoor scene — something calm, beautiful,
and full of life.
• You must include:
• ✅ Show, don’t tell
• ✅ Figurative language
• ✅ Strong positive adjectives
• ✅ Sensory language
• ✅ Zooming in to extra detail
1. Structure
• Paragraph 1 should include:
• Setting (weather) – What is the weather like? Is it sunny, warm, gentle, breezy?
• Nature (trees, flowers) – What can you see growing around you?
• Animals or insects – What creatures can be seen or heard nearby?
• 2. Show, Don’t Tell
• Definition: Instead of saying how something is, show it through actions, senses, or imagery.
• Example:
• ❌ It was a beautiful day.
• ✅ The golden sun stretched its arms across the sky, warming every blade of grass.
👉 You are showing beauty through description, not telling the reader directly.
• 3. Figurative Language
• Definition:
• Using creative comparisons to make your writing more interesting.
• Examples:
• Simile: The flowers swayed like dancers in the wind.
• Metaphor: The sun was a golden coin in the sky.
• Personification: The trees whispered secrets to the wind.
• 4. Strong Positive Adjectives
• Use words that create a pleasant feeling.
• Examples: radiant, peaceful, gentle, vibrant, graceful, golden, calm, refreshing.
• 5. Sensory Language
• Describe what you can see, hear, smell, feel, and taste.
• Example:
• The sweet scent of jasmine drifted through the soft morning air.
• 6. Zooming In (Extra Detail)
• Focus on a small detail to make your writing vivid.
• Example:
• Tiny dewdrops clung to each petal, sparkling like diamonds in the sun.
• 7. Extended Metaphors
• Definition:
• A metaphor that continues through part or all of a paragraph.
• Example:
• The garden was a living painting — each flower a brushstroke of color, each bee a moving
note in the melody of morning
• 8. Color Description
• Use colors to build imagery. Avoid plain words like nice or pretty.
• Example:
• The sky glowed with shades of peach and rose, while emerald leaves shimmered beneath
the light.

• Model Paragraph: “A Pleasant Morning in the Park”
The morning sunlight stretched lazily across the sky, painting the clouds in soft shades of
peach and gold. As the day began, a gentle breeze whispered through the emerald leaves,
carrying the sweet perfume of blooming roses. Everywhere I looked, the park felt like a living
canvas — each tree a graceful brushstroke, and every flower a burst of colour adding life to
the masterpiece. In addition, tiny droplets of dew clung to the grass, glittering like tiny jewels
as the light touched them. Nearby, bees hummed busily around the tulips, their wings
catching the sunlight like shards of glass. Meanwhile, a robin sang its cheerful tune, as if
welcoming the day with joy. Finally, beneath the tall oak, a ladybird crawled over a leaf’s
edge, its scarlet shell gleaming like a polished gem.
