Topic 26.
In many countries today, the eating habits and lifestyles of children are different from
those of previous generations, which has had a negative effect on their health. To what extent
do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Outline:
Partly agree
How different?
- Fast-paced world, improved technology => convenience stores: pre-packed food with
enhanced shelf life span
- Technological boom and hustle and bustle lifestyles => lack of sleep, rare outdoor
activities, stress, and anxiety
Negative effects
- Processing food => deficient in vital nutrients and necessary vitamins
- Lack of sleep + sluggish lifestyles => compromise health, result in fatigue and tireness
most of the time
- Stress and anxiety => undermine confidence and self-esteem
However: Difference created among generations in fact yields positive results, based on the
way in which it was used
- Social media and television (group chats) enable youngsters to connect and share while
also offering opportunities to discover their interests. => improves mentality
- Modern habits such as hitting the gym and participate in musical yoga communities =>
improve physical strength and overal health
Modern advances have radically reshaped the eating habits and lifestyles of young people in a
way that stands out in stark contrast with those of the old generations. Many people contend
that these dramatic changes are responsible for the increasingly alarming health of children. I
partly subscribe to this opinion for the arguments outlined below.
On the one hand, it must be acknowledged that the disparity between the lifestyles and habits
of generations contributes to reduced overall health among teenagers.
First, the fast-paced world and the hustle and bustle of society have given rise for the
popularity of convenience stores, whose pre-packaged food is widely consumed by teenagers.
First, the fast-paced nature of modern society has led to the growing popularity of convenience
stores, where pre-packaged food is widely consumed by teenagers.
These processing food are deficient in vital nutrients and necessary vitamins, which could
therefore deprive teenagers of pivotal prerequisites for a healthy body => deprive teenagers of
essential nutrients needed for healthy development. Moreover, the technological boom
compromises teenagers’ health by reducing sleeping time and outdoor activities. They rarely, if
ever, participate in physical activities such as going out for a walk or touching grass => engaging
in outdoor activites . Instead, all too often this time is replaced by more modern and convenient
alternatives such as video games and YouTube shorts, which contain addictive and customized
contents => ContenTcatering to every teenager’s needs. Last but not least, as the world are
becoming more and more competitive, stress and anxiety occur frequently, which compromise
teenagers’ general inner confidence and self-esteem.
On the other hand, it is flat out wrong to state with certainty that these differences contributes
to no improvements in one’s health. The rising emergence of social media and online chats
enable youngsters to connect and share stories with peers, who they can confide in personal
problems that parents may not fully understand and sympathize. This undoubtedly help
improve one’s mentality. Moreover, teenagers nowadays have ultilize the modern facilities =>
make use of modern facilities in their neighborhoods such as the gym and yoga communities as
well as swimming pool. These modern amenities can not, however, be found in past
generations whose facilities are yet to be adequate and safe enough => these modern
amenities were not widely available in previous generations,. These features of modern life
help contribute to enhanced physical strength and overall health.
In conclusion, while differences in eating habits and lifestyles may be contributing factors to
children’s reduced health, they also have certain benefits. It is therefore the question of how to
utilize the modern advances to help one enhance personal strength and mental health.
Modern lifestyles and eating habits have changed dramatically compared
with those of previous generations. Some people argue that these changes
have had negative consequences for children’s health. While I agree that
certain modern habits can harm young people, I believe that contemporary
lifestyles also provide opportunities to improve their well-being.
On the one hand, many aspects of modern life have contributed to a decline
in children’s physical health. One major reason is the growing consumption
of fast food and processed snacks. These products often contain high levels
of sugar, salt, and fat while lacking essential nutrients, which can lead to
obesity and other health problems. In addition, the widespread use of digital
devices has significantly reduced the amount of physical activity among
young people. Many children now spend several hours each day playing
video games, watching online videos, or using social media instead of
engaging in outdoor activities or sports. As a result, they tend to adopt
sedentary lifestyles, which can negatively affect their overall physical fitness.
On the other hand, it would be inaccurate to claim that modern lifestyles are
entirely harmful to children’s health. In fact, today’s generation benefits from
better access to health information and recreational facilities. Through the
internet and social media, young people can easily learn about balanced
diets, exercise routines, and healthy habits. Furthermore, modern cities often
provide facilities such as gyms, sports centres, and swimming pools that
encourage physical activity. When used appropriately, these resources can
help children maintain both physical fitness and mental well-being.
In conclusion, although modern eating habits and lifestyles may pose certain
risks to children’s health, they also offer valuable advantages. Ultimately, the
impact of these changes depends largely on how young people and their
families manage and adapt to modern life.
