Dear Mr. Lakshman:

Your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated March 4, 2026 was received in this
office on the same day and assigned case number 2026-NavyFOIA-005408.

Your request read as follows, “I need support from women United Nation Navy number
1234567.”

The FOIA is a document retrieval statute, and as such, under 32 CFR §701.8, government
agencies are not required to answer a requester’s questions or to compile a record.

It has been determined that your request is not “reasonably described” and your file has been
closed. Per 32 CFR 701.8 (a)(1), a request must sufficiently describe the desired records so they may be
located with a reasonable amount of effort. Your request lacks necessary details, and the component
cannot perform a proper search.

Requesters must provide reasonable limits such as a time frame, the office(s) to search, and the
specifics of the subject matter. The filing system guidelines listed below demonstrate the types of details
necessary to locate a record.

(I) File related - Type of record, title, index citation, subject area, date the record was created, or
its originator.

(II) Event related - Circumstances that resulted in the record being created or the date surrounding
the event the record covers.

A reasonably described records must contain sufficient file related or event-related information to
conduct an organized, non-random search based on existing filing arrangements and retrieval systems.

You may submit a new request. When submitting the request, please provide a narrow time
frame, office(s) to search, and specific details pertaining to the subject matter. For example, search
NPRC personnel records for Petty Officer John Doe, date of birth February 2, 1955 who served from
April 1, 1975, to April 15, 1985. Upon receipt, it will be assigned a new case number and processed
accordingly.

Under 32 CFR §701.12(a), you have the right to an appeal. Appeals can be filed via email or
through the U.S. mail. In both cases, send the appellate authority the following items:

1. An email/letter requesting an appeal with reasons why it should be granted.

2. A copy of your initial request.
3. A copy of this letter.

An appeal may be submitted through our online portal at [Link] and must be
received within 90 calendar days from the date of this letter.

An appeal sent by email must be received within 90 calendar days from the date of this
letter. In the subject line of the email, type “FOIA Appeal” and your case number
2026-NavyFOIA-005408. Send the appeal to Navy-OJAG-C14-FOIA-PA-
ADMINAPPEALS@[Link].

An appeal sent by mail must be postmarked within 90 calendar days from the date of this
letter. Make sure to mark the envelope “FOIA Appeal”. For issues related to the military, mail your
appeal to The Judge Advocate General (Code 14). For all non-military related matters, mail your appeal
to the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The appropriate addresses have been provided below.
