1. DEFINITION ULTIMATE SPORTS & FRISBEE.
Ultimate Frisbee, or Ultimate, is a fun, non-contact team sport played with a flying disc. It mixes
elements of basketball, football, and soccer, and focuses on fair play through the “Spirit of the
Game,” where two teams of seven score by passing the disc into the end zone.
2. BRIEF HISTORY OF ULTIMATE FRISBEE.
Ultimate Frisbee started in 1968 at Columbia High School in New Jersey, created by Joel Silver
and his classmates. It grew from a simple game into a self-refereed sport focused on fair play,
spread through universities in the 1970s, and was officially recognized by the IOC in 2015.
3. TYPES OF DISC SPORTS
● Ultimate Frisbee – A team game where players pass a disc to score in the end zone,
focusing on fair play.
● Disc Golf – Throwing a disc into baskets in as few throws as possible, like golf.
● Freestyle – Performing tricks and creative moves with a disc.
● Guts – Teams throw the disc fast, trying to get it past opponents.
● Double Disc Court – Teams score by landing a disc in the other team’s court while
defending their own.
4. FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS.
Here are the essential equipment used in Ultimate Frisbee.
● Flying discs – The main equipment for all disc sports.
● Goal baskets – Used in disc golf.
● Cones or markers – To mark boundaries and end zones in Ultimate or DDC.

● Open fields or parks for Ultimate Frisbee and Guts.
● Disc golf courses with baskets for each hole.
● Indoor or outdoor spaces for Freestyle routines or practice.
5. SPIRIT OF THE GAME.
Spirit of the Game is all about how players act during and after the game. It means knowing and
following the rules, playing safely and fairly, being aware of your surroundings, communicating
calmly, and showing respect to teammates and opponents, while enjoying the game and giving
your best effort.
6. FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS IN ULTIMATE.
Ultimate Frisbee calls for a combination of technical, physical, and mental abilities, which can
be organized into several main categories.
Throwing Skills
● Backhand throw – The basic and most common throw.
● Flick/Forehand throw – A sidearm throw for quick and accurate passes.
● Pivoting – Turning your body while holding the disc to find passing options.
● Passing variety – Using different throws to suit the situation.
Catching Skills
● Two-hand catch (Pancake catch) – Securing the disc with both hands.
● One-hand catch (Rim catch) – Catching with one hand for quick plays.
● Attacking the disc – Moving aggressively to catch passes in contested situations.
Movement and Positioning
● Cutting – Making sharp movements to get open for a pass.
● Defensive awareness – Staying alert to opponents’ positions.
● Stall count awareness – Knowing the time limit to throw the disc.
Physical and Mental Skills
● Endurance and speed – Staying active and quick throughout the game.
● Field awareness – Understanding positioning and spacing on the field.
● Mental toughness – Staying focused and resilient under pressure.
