Module 1.
2 Hardware Devices Part 3
Communication devices
Purpose: Devices like smartphones and computers enable constant connection
via networks like the internet.
Cellular Modem: Used for mobile internet access via cellular data, works with a
USB port and SIM card.
Cellular Router: Connects to cellular networks and creates a WiFi network for
multiple devices, may include wired network ports.
Advantages of Cellular Modems:
Easy to install (plugs into USB port)
Portable and allows internet access on any computer
Fast 3G/4G network
Disadvantages:
Can be easily lost or stolen.

homes.
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
Virtual Reality (VR):
Creates a completely new virtual world.
Requires:
o Powerful computer with a strong graphics card.
o Head-mounted display (goggles) with head movement tracking.
o Controllers (e.g., handheld 3D controllers or motion-tracking cameras).
o Software to generate detailed 3D environments.
Challenges: High cost, small delays in display movement can cause discomfort.
Augmented Reality (AR):
Adds digital elements (images, buttons, 3D objects) to the real world.
Used in games (e.g., Pokémon Go), education, training, navigation, and surgery.
Requires:
o Motion sensors, camera, screen, and input controls
(buttons/touchscreen/voice).
o Software to recognize real-world items and overlay digital content.
o Can be implemented through hardware (e.g., HoloLens) or software (e.g.,
smartphones/tablets).
