a) PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION
Many people at school and in the community do not recycle waste material
such as paper, plastic and bottles. This leads to littering, pollution and loss of
useful resources that could be reused or turned into new products.
b) STATEMENT OF INTENT
The aim of this project is to investigate how recycling can protect the
environment by reducing waste, saving energy and suitable living.
c) MAIN THEME
Understanding how recycling benefits the environment and finding ways to
promote recycling in our school and community.

Stage 2: INVESTIGATION TO RELATED
IDEAS
a) CURRENT SOLUTIONS
Different communities and schools around the world are using
various methods to manage waste and encourage recycling
such as:
Placing recycling bins in school, shops and public areas
Teaching people about the importance of recycling
through awareness campaigns
Turning waste materials into new items such as mats and
chairs
Reusing bottles, tins and paper for art and craft projects

Not everyone follows recycling rules

b) DATA COLLECTION
Information for this project was collected through:
Observation: watching how waste is handled at school and
in the community
Interviews: talking to teachers, classmates and residents
about recycling
Reading: using books and posters on environmental
conservation
Internet and media: watching videos and searching for
creative ideas
c) Data analysis
The collected information shows that:
Many people still throw away recyclable materials
Some recycling bins exist but not fully used
People are willing to recycle but lack proper knowledge
and motivation
Schools are good starting points for recycling awareness
Stage 3: generation of ideas
Proposed solutions
Based on the finding from stages 2 the following new and
creative can help improve recycling and environmental
conservation:
1. School recycling corners
Each class can have labelled bins for paper, plastics
and cans and students take turns managing them
weekly
2. Mobile recycling cart
Create a small pushcart that moves around the
school to collect recyclables managed by the
environmental club
3. Recycling garden pots
Use old tins and bottles to grow flowers and
vegetables. Also makes the school environment
greener
4. Recycling awareness days
Hold special school events where learners present
recycled crafts and posters.
5. Waste sorting games
Create fun games or competition that teach correct
waste disposal

After evaluating all the ideas, the recycle and plant project was
chosen as the best solution

It combines recycling and environmental greening, giving
double benefits
It is easy for learners to participate in and maintain

I also made this poster with the same intention of educating
learners about the proper disposal of litter and placed it
everywhere around the school. We also solved the problem
using the solution stated in stage 4 of using bottles to plant
flowers and vegetables.
STAGE 6:EVALUATION AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
CHALLENGES FACED
During the project I faced a few challenges:
1. Lack of cooperation: some people did not take the idea
seriously at first and were not interested in reusing waste
material.
2. Time management: balancing schoolwork and the
project activities was sometimes challenging
3. It was difficult to collect soil for planting
Success of the project
Despite the challenges the project was quite successful.
Many people became interested after seeing the posters
and started reusing tins and bottles instead of throwing
them away.
The planted flowers and vegetables grew well and made
the surrounding look more beautiful.
The project helped raise awareness about environmental
awareness about environmental cleanliness and recycling
I felt proud that even a small idea can bring a positive
change to the community.
Conclusion
This project taught me that protecting the environment begins
with simple actions like reusing waste material. I believe this
project made a good impact and encouraged others to take
care of nature in their own ways.
