Performance Task: Video Experiment on Reflection
and Refraction of Light
NOTE: DO THIS INSIDE THE SCHOOL PREMISSES ONLY DURING SCIENCE TIME
Title:
Light in Action: Demonstrating Reflection and Refraction
Subject:
Science 8
Output:
3–5 minutes video experiment
Groupings:
5-8 Groups (Will be announce in the Group Chat)
Objectives:
Students will demonstrate and explain the concepts of reflection and refraction of
light using a simple experiment and present their observations through a recorded video.
Materials (You may use any of the following)
Flashlight or phone flashlight
Mirror
Glass or transparent container
Water
Straw or pencil
White paper
Spoon or any shiny metal object
Instructions (Follow These Steps)
Step 1: Form a Group
Form a group with 5-8 members.
Step 2: Prepare Your Experiment
Your group must demonstrate the following:
Reflection of Light
Shine a flashlight on a mirror or shiny surface.
Show how the light bounces off the surface.
Refraction of Light
Put a straw or pencil in a glass of water.
Show how the object appears bent or distorted.
Step 3: Record Your Video
Record a 3–5 minute video showing your experiment. The video must include the following
parts:
Part 1: Introduction
Introduce your group members
State the topic: Reflection and Refraction of Light
Part 2: Materials
Show and name the materials you will use
Part 3: Experiment Demonstration
Show the reflection experiment
Show the refraction experiment
Part 4: Explanation
Explain what happened in the experiment
Explain why reflection happens
Explain why refraction happens
Part 5: Real-Life Applications
Give at least 2 examples where reflection or refraction is used in real life
Examples: Mirrors, Eyeglasses, Camera lenses, Rainbows
Video Requirements
Length: 3–5 minutes
All members must participate in the video
The experiment must be clearly shown
Speak clearly and loud enough to be heard
Use a phone or camera to record
Submission
Upload the video in Google Drive and send the link to the teacher together with the names
of the members. Deadline will be March 13, 2026.
