Computer System Design – Course Overview

Course Aim
•To impart knowledge on designing efficient
and reliable computer systems, focusing on
hardware-software co-design, system
architecture, and performance optimization.

Course Expected Learning Outcome(s)
By the end of the course the student should acquire
the following skills and knowledge to:
• Design and analyze computer system architectures.
• Integrate hardware and software components
effectively.
• Optimize system performance considering various
constraints.
• Evaluate emerging trends in computer system
design.

• Computer Architecture Fundamentals
• Processor Design and Performance Optimization
• Memory Hierarchy and Management
• Input/Output Systems and Peripheral Integration
• Embedded Systems Design
• Emerging Technologies in Computer Systems

Teaching and Learning Activities
• Module will be conducted through both online and
offline.
• It will comprise Lectures, tutorials/seminars,
assignments, laboratory works.
• Innovative pedagogical skills such as Project based
learning, flipped based learning, use of software to
build and simulate virtualized learning will be used in
teaching.

Assessment Methods
• The coursework will account 50% that will be assessed through a
combination of online and face to face.
• The continuous assessment will comprise practical assignments,
test, quizzes as well as individual and group assignment.
• Assignments and quizzes will be offered online while other
components of continuous assessment will be offered through
face to face.
• The final University Examination will be offered through face to
face and it will carry 50%.
