MODULE ACTIVITY: SCIENCE TEACHING

Overview
This module focuses on the aims of science education and the domains of science teaching.
It highlights how classroom activities help learners develop scientific knowledge, skills,
attitudes, and values through meaningful learning experiences.

Instructions
Read and understand each aim and domain of science teaching. Study the classroom
activities and examples provided, then reflect on the learning experiences.

Activity 1: Aims of Science Education

Aims Classroom Activities / Your Feelings and Insights
Learning Experiences
Developing inquiring minds Simple experiments, I felt excited as learners
and curiosity about the observation activities, showed curiosity and
world asking questions interest.
Acquire knowledge and Hands-on activities and Learners understood
skills to solve problems problem-solving tasks lessons better through
discovery.
Communicate scientific Group discussions and oral Learners became more
ideas and experiences presentations confident in expressing
ideas.
Think analytically and Analyzing results and Guided questions helped
creatively making conclusions deepen learners’ thinking.
Appreciate benefits and Discussion of real-life Science must be used
limitations of science science applications responsibly.
Understand science, Lessons on inventions and Science connects people

Values objectivity, patience, curiosity during
respect for evidence experiments

Reflection
Through these activities, learners develop not only scientific knowledge and skills but also
positive attitudes and values essential for lifelong learning.

Balik Scientist Program

A government program that encourages Filipino scientists working abroad to return to the
Philippines and share their expertise. It helps strengthen local research, innovation, and
science education, inspiring students to pursue science-related careers.

Project NOAH

Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) uses science and

technology to monitor weather, floods, landslides, and other natural hazards. It makes
science relevant to the youth by showing how scientific data can save lives and protect
communities.

Agbambayan

A science-based community program that focuses on understanding weather systems,

climate, and environmental processes. It promotes awareness of natural phenomena and
disaster preparedness, helping young people see the practical use of science in everyday
life.

The Microsatellites Diwata-1 and 2 and Nanosatellite Maya-1

These Philippine-made satellites were developed by Filipino scientists and engineers. They
are used for weather monitoring, disaster risk reduction, and environmental protection,
showing students that Filipinos can succeed in space science and technology.

Philippine Journal of Science (PJS)

A peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes research conducted by Filipino scientists.
It promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and encourages students to value research
and innovation.

Science Schools in the Philippines

• Manila Science High School

• Philippine Science High School System

These schools specialize in science, mathematics, and technology education. They nurture
young talents through advanced curricula, research activities, and laboratories, preparing
students for science-related courses and careers.
