2.4 Operating Environment

The Accommodation Booking System is designed to operate in a modern web-based
environment that supports reliable performance, security, and scalability. On the client
side, users can access the system using standard web browsers such as Google Chrome,
Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and
smartphones. The system is platform-independent and can run on any operating system
including Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android, provided a compatible browser and
stable internet connection are available.
On the server side, the application runs on a dedicated or cloud-based server using
operating systems such as Linux or Windows Server. The backend can be developed
using technologies like Java, Python, PHP, or [Link], while the database management
system may include MySQL or PostgreSQL for secure data storage. The system also in-
tegrates with external services such as payment gateways, email servers, and SMS APIs.
Secure communication is ensured through HTTPS, and regular backups are maintained
to guarantee data reliability and system availability.

8
2.5 Design and Implementation Constraints
The design and implementation of the Accommodation Booking System are subject to
several technical, operational, and regulatory constraints that influence system develop-
ment. One major constraint is security, as the system handles sensitive user information
such as personal details and payment data. Strong encryption, secure authentication,
and HTTPS communication must be implemented, which may increase development
complexity. Another constraint is payment gateway integration, as the system depends
on third-party services for processing payments. Any downtime or changes in payment
gateway APIs can affect system functionality.
The system must also comply with data protection and privacy regulations, ensur-
ing that user data is stored securely and accessed only by authorized users. Scalability
is another constraint, as the system should handle an increasing number of users and
bookings without performance degradation, requiring efficient database design and server
resources. Technology constraints may arise based on the institution or organization’s
requirement to use specific programming languages, frameworks, or databases. Addi-
tionally, the system requires continuous internet connectivity, which may limit usage in
low-network areas. Time, budget, and resource limitations can further restrict the scope
of features implemented in the initial version of the system.

2.6 Assumptions and Dependencies

The Accommodation Booking System is developed based on several assumptions and
dependencies that affect its design and operation. It is assumed that users have access
to a reliable internet connection and basic knowledge of using web-based applications
such as browsing, form filling, and online payments. The system assumes that users
provide accurate and valid information during registration and booking to ensure correct
reservation and communication. It is also assumed that administrators are trained to
manage accommodation listings, pricing, availability, and user data responsibly.
The system depends on the availability and proper functioning of third-party services.
These include payment gateways for processing online transactions, email and SMS
services for sending booking confirmations and notifications, and hosting services for
maintaining server uptime. The application also depends on browser compatibility,
assuming users will access it through updated and supported web browsers. Database
reliability and regular backups are assumed to prevent data loss. Any failure in external
services, network connectivity, or server infrastructure may impact system performance
and availability. Therefore, proper monitoring, maintenance, and backup mechanisms
are required to ensure smooth operation of the Accommodation Booking System.
