How Animation Is Created

Good day everyone.

Have you ever watched an animated movie and wondered, “How did they make this?” From
colorful cartoons to 3D animated films, animation may look magical on screen. But behind that
magic is a detailed and creative process.

Today, I will explain how animation is created through three main stages: The pre-production,
production, and post-production.

First, let’s talk about pre-production. This is the planning stage where everything begins.

It all starts with an idea. Writers create the story and write the script. They decide who the
characters are, what the setting looks like, and what message the story wants to share.

Next is storyboarding. Storyboards look like comic strips. Artists draw the important scenes to
show how the story will flow from beginning to end.

After that, designers create the characters and backgrounds. They decide how the characters
will look and their clothes, hairstyle, facial expressions, and even their movements. Without this
planning stage, the animation would have no clear direction.

Second is the production stage. This is where the real animation happens.

For 3D animation, artists first create digital models of the characters using computer software.
Then they add something called “rigging,” which works like a digital skeleton. This allows the
characters to move properly.

Next comes animating. Animators create movement frame by frame. Even a simple action, like
waving a hand, requires many frames to make it look smooth and natural.

Voice actors also record the characters’ dialogue. Animators then match the characters’ mouth
movements to the recorded voices. This makes the animation feel more realistic and alive.

Finally, we have post-production. This is the final stage before the animation is released.

In this stage, sound effects and background music are added. These sounds help create
emotion and make scenes more exciting or dramatic.

Then the animation is edited and rendered. Rendering is the process where the computer
processes all the images and turns them into a complete, high-quality video. After this step, the
animation is ready to be shown to audiences.
In conclusion, animation is not just about drawing cartoons. It is a step-by-step process that
includes planning, creating, and finalizing. It starts with pre-production, continues with
production, and ends with post-production.

So the next time you watch an animated movie, remember that behind every scene is a team of
creative and hardworking people who brought imagination to life.
