"Thank you for having me. My name is Mebitu, I am 25 years old, and I completed my
degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from AASTU.

Currently, I work as a Junior System Engineer at ALTA Computec, where I handle

complex technical systems.

Beyond academics/works, I have always prioritized personal and professional discipline,

for example, I was an active member of the Student Association at AASTU, where I learned
the importance of teamwork and following strict administrative procedures. Whether we
were organizing large events or managing student affairs, I had to ensure that every action
aligned with university protocols and that my communication with the team was clear and
precise.

my goal has always been to apply my engineering discipline in aviation. I am a hardworking

and team-oriented individual who performs well under pressure.

 Why do you want to start over as a Trainee?"

Yes , Engineering gave me a good technical foundation, But from the moment I
understood what an aircraft truly represents, I mean that aviation represents
responsibility, precision, and discipline, I became deeply fascinated by it.. To be honest,
even when I was a freshman student, I chose Electrical and Computer Engineering partly
because I believed it would give me an advantage in pursuing a career as a pilot.

I believed that this academic path would strengthen my technical understanding and
prepare me for aviation. Ofcourse it is a major field as aprerequst for joing you as Trainee
pilot ,right? So Today, I am here because that vision has Becoming true .

I see it as applying my high-level technical training to the most demanding office in the
world.

 "How did you handle two degrees at once? Weren't you exhausted?"

Yes, It required strict time management and discipline. I had to prioritize tasks and stay
focused on the end goal. "It adds three things: Technical depth, the ability to learn complex
information quickly, and a proven track record of performing under extreme pressure. I am a
highly 'trainable' candidate." I am not just a candidate with a degree; I am a proven, stress-
tested professional. My MSc in Communication Engineering and the Fast Track program at
AASTU were more than just academic achievements—they were a demonstration of my
ability to handle extreme workloads and understand complex systems at a deep, fundamental
level.

In the cockpit, I will bring that same technical discipline and 'systems-thinking' to ensure the
highest standards of safety

Why do you want to be a pilot?

I want to be a pilot because it is the ultimate application of engineering and

human decision-making . I am I have always been fascinated by how complex
systems work and want to be the one responsible for operating them at the
highest level of safety.

Furthermore, as an Ethiopian, there is no greater honor than joining the 'New Spirit of
Africa.' I want to carry the responsibility of the Ethiopian Airlines uniform and
contribute to our national carrier’s legacy of excellence and safety

 How does Communication Engineering help a pilot?

I know that Aviation highly relies on precise data link and radio communications. My
Whole education nack ground gives me a good understanding of how these systems
work, which helps me troubleshoot and understand things behind the instruments.

I completed my MSc one year after my BSc because I was selected for an
accelerated program. This experience taught me how to manage a double
workload and perform under pressure—skills I am ready to apply to your
intensive pilot training.

 It may sounds strange/ unusual,right ?. the reason that university offers a Fast Track program that allows
high-performing students to begin their master’s studies during their final two years of undergraduate
study. The program was competitive and based on previous academic performance, and They also
assessed how well we could manage heavy workloads and work effectively under pressure. I was selected
for the program. As a result, I studied both programs in parallel for two years and I managed to complete
my MSc just one year after finishing my BSc

Currently , I work as a Junior System Engineer at ALTA Computec PLC .

Personally, I am respectful and hardworking individual , and in my free time I enjoy playing
football and spending time with my friends.

Thank you for the question. The university offers a special accelerated program that allows high-
performing students to begin their MSc courses during the final stage of their bachelor’s degree.
Because of this opportunity, I was able to complete my master’s degree shortly after finishing my
undergraduate studies.

How can your educational background contribute to a career at Ethiopian Airlines?

I believe my educational background in Electrical and Communication Engineering has given me
strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

You know that in todyas world Communication systems are a crucial part of specially in aviation—its

And My studies have given me a basic understanding of concepts like signal processing( The analysis,

Category 2: Work Experience:

At ALTA Computec, I work as a System Engineer. The company is an IT service provider, and
although my position is focused on system-related tasks, I am also involved in preparing technical
proposals for the services we provide. This requires me to understand the customer’s technical
requirements. Once the proposed services are delivered, our company provides ongoing support. If
the customer encounters any issues, I work with their team staff to resolve them. In cases where the
problem is unusual or high-risk, we escalate it to the manufacturer’s support team/hardware and
soft ware . Then for the ongoing any technical comunication , I am responsible to fix any issues and I
will also facilitate to engage the manfacture ,as a company give the privilage to communicate with
them.

So my role was collaborating with senior engineers, clients, and vendors. I learned to communicate
technical details clearly to non-technical stakeholders and coordinate effectively to solve problems
under time pressure."

How did you handle a situation where a technical solution failed?

Once, the customer reports they got an issue , I tried to understand well what is happening ,and try
to fix if I could experience it and based on the guide line/ procedures that the vendor put for that
items/ or software issue, if I didn’t solve with the staff and with senior boss, I quickly reported the
issue, to wards the vendor to immeditly analyzed the root cause, coordinated with the us to resolve
the issue or if it needs a spare part replacement we need to do that

"The nature of aviation and the high responsibility for safety are challenging.

“In aviation, safety and precision are extremely important, and I understand that even small

the level of responsibility is much greater because errors can directly affect human lives. right
? That is why I believe strong responsibility, strict procedures, and attention to detail are

"During my MSc, I completed my degree just one year after my BSc by managing a heavy course load

"I prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact, create a clear action plan, and maintain
communication with team members. This ensures deadlines are met without compromising quality."

"By following standard operating procedures, conducting thorough checks, and collaborating closely
with teams to prevent errors, I ensure that my work aligns with safety protocols and contributes to a
safe operational environment."

working in a team, I focus on understanding each member’s opinion, and I try to maintain open

interrupting. I try to understand the root cause of the disagreement rather than reacting
emotionally. Then, I encourage a solution-oriented discussion, focusing on facts and the project

Question 3: - How do you manage your stress?

In my opinion, working under stress can be more beneficial rather than harmful. It has taught me
how to set priorities and maintain work–life balance. I had several work assignments in the same
week and submitted them just accordingly, apart while also preparing a large proposal. I scheduled
and prioritized my tasks, worked step by step, and finished everything on time. This experience
taught me the importance of good planning and preparation.

17. Stressful moment of your life? .. How did you solve that moment?

“There have been stressful moments in my life. One of the most challenging periods was when I
started my MSc studies, i had to handle courses from both undergradute degree and master’s

challenging .But I managed it by prioritizing my [Link] experience helped me learn to stay calm,
plan effectively, and perform better under pressure

9. Your strength and weakness?

“One of my strengths is that I can learn quickly new environments. I’m also
strong at teamwork. In group assignments, I often took the role of
coordinating tasks and making sure everyone knew the idea and the deadline

I am good at working under pressure. following instructions carefully,.

As a weakness, I sometimes focus too much on details because I value accuracy, especially
when I preparing reports or presentations and proposal documents. I am actually working on
improving my time balance by focusing only on changes that truly improve the outcome.

10. What are pilot’s qualities?

 “I think a pilot should be disciplined, responsible, and calm under pressure. They need to
make quick decisions, pay attention to details, work with the team, and always keep
learning.”

(I have always admired the appearance of airplanes and feel a sense of appreciation, especially when I see planes
appereance including its voice, when they are on fling over my head. I truly aspire to be one of the operators, after
applying the intensive training you will provide.". )

In my free time, I usually play football with my friends and spend time with them. I also like to watch
movies. And people say about me I am frank, disciplined, respectful and hard worker.

A) Did you work on any projects or research relevant to aviation?

" My research focused on improving how data travels inside computer networks.
Traditional routing methods follow fixed rules and often struggle when network
conditions change, ,,….. But SDN It’s a modern approach to designing, building, and
managing networks that makes them more flexible and easier to control. So what I did
In my research is ? , I focused on improving routing efficiency in Software-Defined
Networking (SDN) using Reinforcement Learning (RL). Traditional routing algorithms,
like OSPF, struggle to adapt to changing network conditions, such as traffic fluctuations,
topology changes, and congestion.
 I implemented a Deep Q-Network (DQN) approach, where a neural network learns to
make optimal routing decisions dynamically.

I compared the DQN-based routing with traditional OSPF routing and found that DQN
significantly improved [Link] terms of different parametrs(such as its efficiency,
energy consumption

This optimization is crucial for maintaining performance and reliability in modern

communication systems, ensuring efficient data transmission across various network

I am motivated by several factors,my family inspired me to become a pilot, especially my

uncle, who is successful in his own career. He helped me see piloting as a respected and

Yes I consider myself a good observer because I pay attention to details. When I entered, I

professionalism, beyond the theoretical information, I knew

18. Have you ever had a conflict with instructor?....... How did you solve it?

I have never had a serious conflict with an instructor, but there were times when I disagreed
on certain approaches. In those situations , I stayed calm, listened carefully, and respectfully
discussed my perspective.

19. Tell us about your final year project?

For my final year project, I worked on an IoT-based public transport payment collection
system. The goal was to create a digital system to replace paper tickets and manual fare
collection. We used RFID smartcards linked to user accounts and developed server-client
communication using Python code and web sockets protocol. The system was simulated in
Proteus and a prototype was built. Through this project, I learned problem-solving, attention
to detail, and managing complex systems—..

The buses and payment devices act as IoT devices. ….They communicate with the server
(Transport Ministry) through the internet using web sockets. The system can track
passenger payments……………..IoT allows devices to “talk” to each other over the internet
to make processes smarter and more automated.

20. What efforts did you take to join this piloting aviation academy?

To join this aviation academy, I worked hard to prepare myself. I studied subjects related to
aviation. As I mentioned, I graduated in Electrical and Computer Engineering, so I focused
on improving my English. Although I can understand everything in English, speaking
fluently was a challenge, and I have been continuously working to improve it.

21. Tell us about something you failed to accomplish

One thing I have not fully accomplished yet is learning a langege called Ge‘ez, Although I
can understand some of it I cant accomplished well, since I did not give enough time to learn.

22. Do you think your university education has anything to do with being a pilot? Why do
you need to leave that education after all this time?..

Yes, I believe my education at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University has helped
me develop important skills for being a pilot.

Studying Electrical and Computer Engineering gives me problem-solving, analytical

thinking, attention to detail, and how to work with complex system, and also I know the
consept behind every techniology .

23. What do you know about Ethiopian airlines?

Ethiopian Airlines is Africa’s leading airline and one of the most respected in the world. It
has a modern fleet, high safety standards, and strong training programs. I admire how it
connects Africa to the world and develops skilled aviation professionals."

24. What is your biggest accomplishment in your life?

One of my biggest accomplishments is completing my degree in Electrical and Computer

Engineering, which has equipped me to be a competitive candidate for trainee pilot positions
here today. Another accomplishment I am proud of is mentoring my little brother as he
pursued his degree in the United States successfully and he joined one of the top university in
america. Both experiences taught me responsibility, guidance, and perseverance, which are
qualities I will carry into my career as a pilot too.

25. Have you ever solved a problem? When and how tell us about it?

Yes, I have solved problems both during my studies and at work. Recently, I was working for
a private IT company that provides support services to customers. A customer had an issue
with a product, and there was a communication gap between the manufacturer engineers and
the customer. I organized a Zoom meeting, clarified the issues, and resolved the problem.
This taught me the importance of communication, taking initiative, and problem-solving—
skills

26. What will you do if you encounter a life threatening situation while you are working?

If I encounter a life-threatening situation while working, I will stay calm and focused first. I
will quickly assess the situation, identify the risks, and follow the proper procedures and
safety protocols. I will prioritize the safety of myself and others, make clear and quick
decisions, and take the necessary actions to control the situation.

27 Is a pilot risk taker or risk avoider?

A pilot is neither a care less risk-taker nor someone who avoids risks completely.A good pilot
carefully assesses risks, makes informed decisions, and follows all safety procedures to
manage them effectively

You should select me because I have a good professional background in Electrical and
Computer Engineering, and I am disciplined, motivated, and continuously working to
