Introduction to Embedded Systems
An embedded system is like a small computer built into a device to make it “smart” and able to
do specific jobs. Unlike a regular computer where you can do many things (like browse the
internet, play games, or write documents), an embedded system is designed to do one main task
very well.
For example:
A washing machine has an embedded system to control the washing cycles.
A traffic light uses an embedded system to change lights at the right time.
A smartphone camera has an embedded system to adjust focus and brightness.
Embedded systems usually combine:
Hardware – like a microcontroller or sensors.
Software – the program that tells the hardware what to do.
We use embedded systems every day without even noticing. They are in our cars, appliances,
gadgets, and even toys. Learning about them is exciting because it lets you build devices that
can interact with the real world—like robots, smart home devices, or even wearable technology.
