METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the methodology of the study which includes the research
design, research participants, research instruments, data gathering procedure data
Analysis Approach and statistical treatment of the study.
Research Design
This study used means and standard deviations. Mean is t he average obtained by
dividing the sum of the data by the number of data in the set. In this study, it was used
to calculate, to know the teaching concerns of beginning teachers. Standard deviation is
the extent to which data differs from the mean. The standard deviation is used to
measure of how the data is clustered about the mean. One-way analyses of variance
(ANOVA) were also used. It is used to determine whether there are any statistically
significant differences between the means of two or more independent unrelated groups.
In this study, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine whether
there is a significant difference in the level of concern when analyzed by gender, civil
status, or months of service in teaching.
Research Participants
The participants of this study were the 29 beginning teachers from the school of
San Isidro South District in the Division of the City of Mati. There are 12 schools in San
Isidro South District; 2 High Schools and 10 Elementary Schools, 29 beginning teachers
answered the survey questionnaires. In high school, Manuel S. Nasser, Sr. National High
School has 4 beginning teachers and Bitaogan National High School has 4 beginning
teachers. In elementary school, La Union Elementary School had 2 beginning teachers,
Dela Peña Narisma Recaño Elementary School had 3 beginning teachers, Talisay
Elementary School had 6 beginning teachers, Cambalion Elementary School had 2
beginning teachers, Tirso A. Arguelles Elementary School has 1 beginning teacher,
Bitaogan Central Elementary School had 1 beginning teacher, Jose P. Laurel Elementary
School had 2 beginning teachers, Gregorio H. Del Pilar Elementary School had 1
beginning teacher, General Malvar Elementary School had 1 beginning teacher, and Jose
P. Burgos Elementary School had 2 beginning teachers.
Data Demographics
Shown in table 1 was the demographic profile of the study participants which
sought to answer the question what are the top concerns of the beginning teachers? What
are the least? These include the gender, civil status, area of learning taught and months of
services of the respondents. There were 29 respondents which comprised 3 (10.3%) male
students and 26 (89.7 %) female students. It comprised 16 (55.2 %) single and 13 (44.8
%) married beginning teachers. In terms of area of learning taught, All Subjects got the
highest percentage 16 (55.2%) followed by MSEP with 2 (6.2 %) and the rest got 1 (3.4
%). Moreover, in Months of service, 1 to 12 months got the highest percentage of 14
(48.3%) 13 to 24 months got 11 (37.9%) and 25 to 36 months 4 (13.8%) got the lowest
percentage. The highest percentage in terms of grade levels taught Kindergarten got the
highest percentage of 4 (13.8%) and grade 5 got 3 (10.3%).

Research Instrument
The researcher’s utilized questionnaires that were adapted from Both (2010) which
was originally developed by Frances Fuller in 1969 that was used to determine the
concerns of beginning teachers. The survey questionnaire contained 45 items, Likert
Scale was used in this questionnaire in which (1) means not concerned, (2) means a little
concerned, (3) means moderately concerned, (4) means very concerned and (5) means
totally preoccupied. Beginning teachers must encircle 1 if they are not concerned to the
situation, 2 if they are a little concerned, 3 if they are moderately concerned, 4 if they are
very concerned, and 5 if they are totally preoccupied.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers observed the following procedures in the gathering of data:
1. Asking permission to conduct the study. The researchers sent a letter to the Principal of
each school of San Isidro South District in the Division of the City of Mati for the
permission to conduct the study in the said schools.
2. Administration and retrieval of the questionnaires. With the approval of the request
letter, the researchers personally administered the questionnaires to the beginning
teachers of San Isidro South District in the Division of the City of Mati. The retrieval of
the questionnaires was made possible through the help of the participants, co-teachers,
and principals.
3. Collation and Tabulation of Data. The researchers gathered and tabulated the answer
of the respondents. The questionnaire for the Teachers Concerns checklist was tallied.
The data were analyzed and interpreted confidentially and accordingly through the aid of
the statistician.
Data Analysis Approach
The SPSS Version 23 software package was used for statistical analysis. The
vertical axis listed the number of respondents. The horizontal axis contained some details
like the age, gender, status, area of taught, length services, grade/level, and college they
graduated. To answer research question 1 what are the top concerns of the beginning
teachers? What are the least? The same way in answering also the least concerns of
beginning teachers which means and standard deviations were computed to know the
different concerns of beginning teachers. Finally, research question number 2, how do
beginning teachers differ in their level of concern when analyzed by gender, civil status,
or months of service in teaching?
