Module Synopsis Hazards are inevitable and disasters preventable; however, in case of their occurrences an effective emergency

response practice is critical. Emergency response approach and skills of attendants or assistants contribute
significantly to magnitude of lives saved and casualties encountered. Disasters and injuries are Injuries directly
or indirectly affect national and household economies through disabling or killing of the key persons of the

financial support systems. Therefore, it is indispensable for all organizations to consider key emergency medical

events and their relative response processes. This module will equip leaners with basic knowledge and
necessary skills for emergency response, preparedness and procedures in case of situations (common, mild,

severe and life threatening) that calls for such actions. This module ensures improved employee safety and

health; thus, increasing job satisfaction. It will ensure that learners have an ability to employ appropriate hazard
identification and effective response processes.
Module objectives The objectives of this module are to:
1. Make students understand and appreciate significance of first aid procedures and training at the workplace.
2. Enable students to develop skills and abilities that would facilitate their participation in the conduction of

casualty check and response to emergency

3. Device evaluation and management of the scene of an emergency
4. Facilitative the understanding the basic human anatomy and physiology for the management and effective
response to emergency situations.
5. Equip learners with skills to conduct an initial assessment of a casualty.
6. Equip students with ability to conduct hazard identification and health risk assessments contributing to
emergency situations
