If you are a worker who interacts with the public as part of your job, whether
that’s spending days, hours or minutes with them, you have a duty to safeguard
them. Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility, and it’s important that we all
understand the signs of abuse, neglect and exploitation so that we can help
people who may be in need of it.
This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge that you need to be able
to fulfil your safeguarding duty. You will learn about the types of abuse, exploitation
and safeguarding concerns, and signs that you should remain vigilant to. Upon
completion of this training, you will also know what to do if you have concerns,
and how to ensure they are correctly reported and recorded.

Module Two: Types of Abuse
In this module you will learn about the ten common types of Module Five: Reporting and Recording Concerns
abuse, as outlined by the Care Act, and the indicators that suggest
they are occurring. In this final module we will outline the steps you need to take to
report and record your concerns or a disclosure. You will also learn

Abuse is not clear cut, and doesn’t always fall neatly into ten
categories. In this module you will explore further types of abuse
and safeguarding concerns and their indicators.

• Radicalisation and extremism
• Honour-based abuse
• Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
• Harmful sexual behaviour
• Peer-on-peer abuse
Aims of the training
By the end of this course, you will:
• Understand what is meant by the term ‘safeguarding’ and why it’s so important.
• Understand their responsibilities for safeguarding vulnerable people.
• Be aware of the different types of abuse and neglect.
• Be able to recognise indicators and warning signs of abuse and neglect in children and adults.
• Understand what to do if they have concerns or someone discloses abuse to them.
• Know how to report and record concerns or disclosures.
• Understand the importance of accurate record keeping in safeguarding children and adults.
• Be aware of what happens after concerns are reported.
