 CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
We believe that a growing relationship with God is always about taking the next
step. Whether you are new in your relationship with Jesus, or coming back to
faith, we would love to help you take your next steps.
The overall goal of this course is to help you develop a strong foundation on
which to build your relationship with God. No matter how long you have been
following the Lord or attending a church this manual will refresh your
knowledge of God’s word, which will strengthen your relationship with God.
Now that you are born again
Now that you are born again and in fellowship with God you will want to grow
in grace, and in the Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ – 2Pet3:18
Born again
Signifies a profound spiritual transformation, a new birth of the spirit, which is
distinct from physical birth. It refers to a change of heart, moving from a state
of estrangement from God to a new relationship of love and obedience. This
new birth is attributed to the work of the Holy Spirit, and it is often associated
with faith in Jesus Christ and Baptism.
Ways to grow Spiritually
The Bible, by the Holy Spirit, reveals God to you, and holds the answers,
directly or indirectly, by specific admonition or by principle, for the new life
you now possess – 2Tim 3:16-17.
1. Read through the Gospel of John, a Chapter a day, then the book of Acts
and some of the epistles, before returning to the Gospel of Mathew, Mark
or Luke.
2. Think about what you read, study, analyze. Here in the Bible is greater
wisdom than in all the other books in the world and here is the revelation
of God himself.
3. Take extra time to read through the Psalms to enrich your devotion to
God. Read Proverbs to strengthen your relationships with your fellow
men.
4. Pray for understanding. The Holy Spirit will help you (PS 119:8). You
will now begin to see life from God’s perspective.
 5. Share daily with others what you are learning.
Pray Daily
Talk with God often, to hand over your problems to him. Let him bear the
weight of your troubles – Mt 11:28, 1Pet5:7.
Praise and thank God for who he is and for what he has done for you. Admit
your weakness, name your sins confessing to God all that displeases him. Pray
for others that they, too, may receive Jesus Christ as their savior.
Suggestions for your Daily devotional time
1. Plan a definite time, preferable in the morning when you mind is fresh
and rested. Make it a habit.
2. Select a quiet place where you can be alone with God.
3. List requests for others and yourself.
4. After reading and considering a portion of scripture, spend time in prayer.
Commit the day and yourself to him.
Learn to depend on the Holy Spirit
The Bible says, “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the father will
send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your
remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” – Jn14:26.
God has given us the Holy Spirit to keep us day by day in this life. He will teach
us, guide us and strengthen us in time of need.
Attend Church regularly
When you received Jesus as your personal savior, you were joined not only to
the living Christ but also in a unique way to all your fellow Christians. You
became a part of the body of Christ. Going to church now will be a new
experience for you – Heb10:24-25. You will be aware of a new dimension in
your life. You will grow in understanding by hearing God’s word preached and
taught, you can ask questions and discuss scripture with others. You will sense a
deep bond with other Christians as you worship together.
Be of service to others
You will find that the more you give yourself in service to others, the more you
will enjoy your Christian life. Talk to your Pastor about ways and opportunities
to serve Christ and witness for him through your Church and in your
Community. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good
works which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” – Eph
2:10
Learn to Conquer your doubts
At times you may doubt that you are a child of God. Satan will point to failures
in your life, disturbing thoughts of some unconfessed sin. It is important to
remember that you are not saved by your goodness but by what Christ has
already done for you. In times of doubt, reassure yourself with the fact that you
have received Christ by faith, based on God’s word and that you are now a child
of God – 2Cor 5:17.
Learn to live one day at a time
Too often our lives becomes filled with anxiety and we worry ourselves sick
about the possibility of problems tomorrow. We cross many bridges before ever
coming to them.
The Bible says that we are not to be anxious about tomorrow, that tomorrow
will look after itself-each day has enough troubles of its own. Mt 6:33-34.
Coupled with this wonderful truth is a promise from God which should greatly
encourage our hearts. “And as thy days, so shall thy strength be – Deut 33:25.
So learn to live one day at a time, and believe that God’s grace will be sufficient
to meet the day’s demands.
Learn the blessings of suffering
Difficulties, ill health-suffering of all kinds, have a new perspective when you
have Christ in your life. You need not to go to pieces, you can be strengthened.
You need not be a problem to others, you can be a blessing as you realize God’s
power, comfort and strength through life experiences, you will grow in the
knowledge of him – 1Pet 4:12-13.
Learn to meet temptation
Temptation is a part of life. It was before you received Christ, and it still will
be. To be touched with wrong thoughts is not sin, but to harbor them or yield to
them is.
The Bible says, “watch and pray that ye enter not into temptations, the spirit
indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak – Mt -26:41.
Jesus met temptation in the spirit’s strength and from God’s view point of sin.
When tempted in the wilderness, he replied to the devil by quoting scripture.
Three times he said, “It is written”. – Mt 4:4,7,10.
So he prepared through prayers and knowledge of God’s word.
The Bible says, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to
man. But God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye
are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be
able to bear it” 1 Cor10:13.
The “way to escape” may be to “flee” temptation – 1 Tim 6:11 or to resist on
the spot – Jam 4:7.
Be a witnessing Christian
Sharing with others your new life in Christ by words and actions can be one of
the most satisfying and exciting experiences you have ever had. The apostle
Peter encourages us to be ready always to give answer to every man that asketh
you a reason of hope that is you – 1Pet3:15, MK16:15.
How to witness for Christ
As you recognize Christ working in your life, you will want to tell others about
him and what he is doing for you, this can be relatively easy when the Holy
Spirit is your guide and when you have a few scriptures to share.
The word of God is like a seed, which when planted in the human heart can bear
fruit unto life eternal – Jn 4:36.
Few suggestions to help you “Plant the Seed”
1. Familiarize yourself with these scriptures’ Rm 3:23, Rm 6:23, Rm 5:8,
Eph 2:8-9, Jn 11:12. It would be well for you to memorize, these verses
so that you can use them with confidence.
2. As you read the Bible daily, underline additional verses that you will be
able to use in witnessing. Memorize as many as you can.
3. Begin to pray for individuals with whom you might share Christ. Expect
God to provide the opportunities and give understanding. God is not
willing that any should perish 2 Pt3:9.
4. Spend time with these friends. Win their confidence by doing things with
them and for them. Your genuine love and interest will open many doors
for a witness.
 5. Take your friends to church services, and after meetings discuss the
message.
6. When with your friends, be praying for opportunities to tell them about
Christ At an opportuned moment you might simply ask, “What is your idea
of what comes after death”? or how do you think a person becomes a
Christian? Listen to their ideas and then say, “Here is what I believe”. In
giving your answer, use the scriptures, especially those included in this
manual.
7. Try to make clear that becoming a Christian involves a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. You don’t become a Christian by being
good, doing the best you can, or by joining a church, but by personally
receiving Christ – by trusting in him as your personal savior from sin.
A person must be willing to
 Admit he is a sinner in need of forgiveness.
 Be willing to turn from sin.
 Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save him from sin.
 Receive Jesus Christ as personal savior, and commit his life to him.
 Give an opportunity for a response. If you sense that an individual sees
his need. You might ask:
(a) Have you received Christ as your personal savior?
(b) Would you like to, right now?
Then, discuss with him Rev 3:20, Jn1:12. Point out that:
 Christ stands at the door of his heart, knocking.
 Christ will come in if he is invited
 When he comes in, the person becomes a child of God – a Christian.
 Lead him step by step through the following suggested prayer.
Dear father, I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that
Christ died for my sin. I am willing to turn from my sins. I now invite Jesus
Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal savior.
I am willing by your help to follow and obey Christ as the Lord of my life.
 CHAPTER TWO
Jesus’ view on deliverance

Jesus was the first to cast out demons

In Mk 1:23-28, Jesus cast out demons and the people were amazed and said,
“what thing is this?” What new doctrine is this? For with, authority
commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him”-v27.
In the old testament, the people killed any possessed person or who used
witchcraft – Ex 22:18. Jesus dealt with the demons, sent them out of the man
and kept the man in the church.
A Christian can be demonized but not possessed Eph 2:2
A Christian is Holy Spirit “Possessed” and cannot be demon possessed at the
same time. But areas of his life where Jesus is not in full control, like emotions,
desires, anger, lust etc, are his areas of demonization and he therefore needs
deliverance in those areas.
Jesus laid hands while casting out demons
There are two approaches, one approach is by commanding the demons out by
the word of God – MK 1:23-28, while the other is by laying on of hands and
casting them out – LK4:40-41, LK13:11-16.
Jesus’ goal was to release the oppressed and turn them to God.
….and therefore refused to be threatened by Herod – LK 13:31-32
Nobody was sent out in new Testament to preach without being equipped
to cast out devils.
(a) 12 disciples – Mt 10:1,5,7,8.
(b) 70 Disciples – Lk10,1,17,19.
(c) You and I – Mk16:15-16
The teaching on casting out demons should continue (unstopped)
Mt28:19-20 – Enlist today because Jesus needs you. LK 4:18, Acts 10:38-39,
Jn4:34-35, Mt9:35-38. Deliverance means to be rescued from captivity or evil.
1Thess 5:23 – Man is a spirit, he has a soul and he lives in the body.
When we get born again, our spirit will get saved – Rm10:9, 13, 2Cor5:17.
When we study the word of God and grow spiritually, our soul gets saved –
Rm12:1,2, Jam1:21. When we go through deliverance prayers, our body gets
saved – LK4:18, Phlp2:12, Joel 2:32. The unbeliever needs salvation from sin
by accepting Jesus as Lord and savior, while the believer needs deliverance –
Mt12:43-45.
You will know whether you need deliverance or not, based on:
1. Your background
2. Your physical experience
3. Your dream life.
Prayer Point
Mt15:13, Ps125:3, Isa29:6, Job20:15, Job29:17.
 CHAPTER THREE
OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of our church is summarized in these few sentences. Guide,
Liberate and lead the faithful to achieve, their prophetic purpose – “And the
Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will preserve me unto his
heavenly kingdom to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen” – 2Tim 4:18.
 We exist to win souls – Pr11:30
 We exist to set the captives free – Isa61:1-3, Lk4:18.
 We exist to praise God – Ps100:4
 We exist to give our time, service, money to God – Lk6:38.
 We exist to disciple believers (helping them grow) – Eph4:11-12, Heb
6:1.
The giving that pleases God
1. Mal3:10 – Tithes and offerings requires your obedience.
2. Deut 26:10 – First fruit also requires your obedience.
3. Lk12:33 – Alms requires your sympathy.
4. 2Cor 9:10 – seed requires your faith.
Our Practices
Beliefs are not worth much unless they are translated into actions. Based on
what the Bible teaches, we fell very strongly about the following practices.
1. Bible as our sole authority – 2Tim3:16. Since God’s word is the only
reliable and truthful authority, we accept the bible as our manual for
living. Our first question when faced with a decision is “what does the
Bible say?” We practice daily Bible reading, Bible study and Bible
memorization. The Bible is the basis for all we believe.
2. Priesthood of every believer – 1Pet2:9, Rev1:5-6. The Bible teaches that
every Christian is called to “full time” Christian service, regardless of his
or her vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minster by
encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every
believer has direct access to God though prayer and Bible reading.
3. Spirit led living – Rm 8:13-14, Phlp 2:13, Eph 5:18. We believe the only
way possible to live the Christian life is by God’s power within us.
Therefore we seek to practice a daily dependence on God’s spirit to
enable us to do what is right.
4. Immersion – Col 2:12
We practice baptism by immersion under water – The way Jesus was
baptized, and the way the Bible commands.

5. Tithing – Lev 27:30

At GPM Worldwide, we practice tithing for the support of Christs body,
the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10% of our
earnings is Biblical standard of giving.

6. Telling others about Christ – 1Pet3:5.

It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the good news with
those with whom God brings us into contact. We practice personal
sharing about Christ and Inviting friends to church.
 CHAPTER FOUR
Essential of our Beliefs
1. About God
We believe in one ever living, eternal God. Infinite in power, holy in
nature, attributes and purpose, and possessing absolute, indivisible deity.
This one true God has revealed himself as father in creation, through his
son Jesus Christ in redemption and as the Holy Spirt moving in our lives.
Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. He is both God and man –
Isa 43-10, Deut 6:4, Eph 4:4-6.

2. About the Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, a divine revelation
from God to man. We accept the scriptures as the supreme source and
final authority in all matters of faith and conduct, because it is inspired by
God, it is truth without any mixture of error – 2Tim3:16, Pr 30:5

3. About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, born of a virgin, that he
lived a sinless life, was crucified on cavalry for our sins and bodily rose
from the grave and that he has been exalted to the throne of God where he
is the only mediator between God and man. We believe that through his
death and life we have personal salvation and power for victorious living
Mt1:22-23, Isa9:6, Jn1:1-5,14.

4. About Sin and Salvation

We believe that all men have sinned and stand in need of redemption,
which is obtained through the new birth by faith in the shed blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Those repenting and being born again become children
of God and heirs with Christ – Rm 6:23, Jn14:6, Eph2:8-9.

5. About the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is active in the world today and that the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the initial evidence of speaking with
other tongues, along with his accompanying gifts, is the privilege of all
new testament believers. The Holy Spirit provided the Christian with
power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing
what is right. Jn 16:17-18, Acts1:4,8, Gal 5:25.
6. About the Church
We believe the church has been “called out” of the world to be a
habitation of God through the spirit. As the body of Christ on earth the
church offers hope on earth, the church offers hope to mankind.
The church is one body made of many members, diverse in their gifts and
callings of the Holy Spirit. God has ordained church government and he
gives various ministries, roles, task or offices – 1 Pet 2:9, 1cor 12:12-13,
Heb 13:17.

7. About the second coming of Christ and eternity

We believe that people were created to exist forever. We will either exist
eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through
forgiveness and salvation. We believe that heaven and hell are real places
of eternal existence. We believe in the pre-millennial return of Jesus
Christ to receive his bride, the church, to himself. At his coming, we
believe the dead in Christ will be resurrected from the grave. We believe
in Christ’s millennial reign on the earth Jn3:16, Titus2:13, Rev 22:17,20.
 CHAPTER FIVE
Prayer
Prayer is one of the most misunderstood topics in the Bible. Yet it is the easiest
to master in practice. We think that prayer has to be groaning, mournful, long,
tedious etc. This is just not so. As you learn to pray and learn the power of
prayer, you will appreciate the saying.
Where there is much prayer, there is much power, where there is little prayer,
there is little power, where there is no prayer, there is no power. There is a
saying that says, prayer is not preparation for battle, prayer is the battle. As you
learn to pray, you learn to take authority and dominion promised to you as a
child of God over the evil spirit that plague the nation, your city, community
and more importantly your family.
What is Prayer?
 Prayer is communicating, talking with God – it is nothing complicated.
 You don’t have to be in a certain place or in a particular position to pray.
You don’t have to have your hands clasped together, saying certain words
in the right order.
 Prayer is simply telling God what is on your heart, mind or soul.
What does prayer achieve?
1. Prayer gets your spirit closer to God. When you pray, you are drawing
close to God.
2. Prayer changes your attitude. You cannot remain under the presence of
God and labour hatred, envy, strife etc. is love and as you pray that love
affects your thoughts and actions.
3. Prayer affects the enemy. Your prayers have great impact on their
Kingdom. By praying, we have power over demons. Even the strongest
demon must flee at the prayer of God’s elect.
4. Prayer changes heaven. Hezekiah prayed and changed the mind of God.
Hezekiah was to die but his prayer added 15 more years to his life. Your
prayer affect the way God deals with those you pray for and with
yourself.
5. Prayer affects others. Your prayers will touch others’ hearts. Your prayers
will cause God to move on behalf of the needs of others, some of whom
don’t pray for themselves. Your prayers may be the only thing that stands
 between them and the devil. Your prayers can change the lives of those
around you Don’t stop praying.

How to develop a life style of prayer

1. Approach prayer with the right attitude
a. Be real – Mt 6:5
b. Be relaxed – Mt 6:6
This doesn’t mean to literally go into a closet to pray. It means to go to a place
where you can be alone with God.
c. Be revealing – Mt 6:7-8
2. Use the Model Jesus gave us
This then is how you should pray – Mt6:9
Six Parts of Prayer
1. Praise – Begin by expressing your love to God – Mt 6:9. When you pray
start with worship and praise. As you pray, worship. When you are
finished, worship. Acknowledge his power, glory, and majesty in your
life.
A. Two kinds of Praise
 Adoration – Praising God for who he is.
 Thanksgiving – Praising God for what he has done – PS 100:4
B. How to Praise God
 As you read your bible, make a list of God’s character qualities that you
discover and then review them when you pray.
Key: God’s character is the basis for our boldness in making requests in
prayer. God answers prayers that acknowledge who he is.
 Remind yourself and affirm the promises God has made through his
word.
 Make a list of all that you are thankful for and review them when you
pray.
2. God’s will – Surrender yourself to God’s will – Mt6:10. Pray for God’s
will to be done in your family, church, ministry, job, future, city, nation
and the whole world. Surrender your will to him. Let him find the secret
 chambers of your heart. Give him those things you wouldn’t ever give to
another. You will find that it will change your life. God expects you to
quickly submit your life and situations to him.

3. Provision – ask God to provide for your needs – Mt6:11. What needs can
you pray about, all of them – Phlp4:19, Jam4:2.
The Key: Pray specific prayers. Develop a prayer list along with promises
you are claiming from the Bible and expect an answer. Your list may
include something like this.
 Personal needs
 Your marriage, children and family members
 Church needs
Refer to it often during prayer. You will find it very easy to pray for 20
minutes, one hour and even longer if you have a prayer list to guide you.
Don’t worry about anything, instead, pray about everything. Tell God
what you need and thank him for all he has done – 1 Pet5:7.
4. Pardon – ask God to forgive your sins – Mt6:12.
Four steps to forgiveness
A. Ask the spirit of God to reveal every sin – Ps 139:23-24.
B. Confess each sin specifically – Pr 28:13.
C. Make restitution to others when necessary – Mt5:23-24.
D. By faith accept God’s forgiveness – 1Jn1:9.

5. People: - pray for others -Mt 6:12, 1Tim 2:1. Make a prayer list of people
you want to pray for. You might pray for different people on different
days of the week.
 The pastor and other ministers.
 Lost friends and loved ones.
 Missionaries and nations of the world.
The way we deal with others is critical. If we want God to forgive our
sins, we must also be willing to forgive others and not hold it against
them. Your forgiveness is tied to how you forgive.
6. Protection: - ask for spiritual protection -Mt 6:13
 Believers face spiritual battles every day, Satan wants to defeat you
through temptation and fear. By praying for protection, you will have the
confidence to face every situation that comes your way.
 We need to pray for God to deliver us from sinful old self. Pray that God
will give us new appetites, so that we don’t fall back into the filth we
came from. Prayer keep you from falling back into temptation – 1Jn4:4.
As you end your time in prayer, once again, praise and glorify God.
 CHAPTER SIX
Pastors and Leaders
God has given us a method of checks and balances to keep us in the truth now
that we are saved.
Our future success and salvation relies upon our obedience to God’s word. We
do that by seeking and obeying spiritual and Biblical Leadership – Acts 8:30-
31.
The Ethiopian Eunuch asked Phillip how he could understand Isaiah (the Bible)
unless some man should guide him. We must be willing to submit ourselves to
those in authority over us because they will guide us to salvation – 1Pet5:5.
When we found salvation, God did not turn us loose to do as we please. Rather,
God has given us guidelines, controls, disciplines and teachers to instruct us and
to watch over our souls.
The role of the ministry
 God gave us the ministry of the church as a governing element.
 The ministry is also there to help us understand and make sense of his
word – Neh8:8.
 From experience and the Bible, we understand the importance of the
ministry having the oversight of the flock of God – Acts 20:28.
 God’s plan calls for the ministry to have this oversight, not as a dictator, a
tyrant, or a powerful ruler, but as a God-fearing leader, dispensing
spiritual food to the saints.
Where and what would our lives be like without the ministry, without a
shepherd’s heart guiding and leading us under the direction of God? This is not
the sole agency of protection in our lives, but it is an extremely important one as
we can see from the following examples.
Five Fold Ministry – Eph 4:11-14
1. Apostle – Commissioned to carryout instructions.
2. Prophet – the one who speaks for God
3. Evangelist – the one who proclaim the Gospel
4. Pastors – the shepherd
5. Teachers – the one who teaches
Study the three folds purpose of the ministry.
1. Perfecting of the saints
2. Work of the ministry.
3. Edifying of the body of Christ.
Responsibility of the ministry
Many pertinent facts surround the relationship of the ministry to the body. The
following two areas have a profound importance in our lives. We need to study
and apply these principles to our lives. These will help us in developing a
proper relationship between ministry and the saints.
Our responsibility to the ministry
1. Remember them that have rule over you – Heb 13:7.
2. Esteem them very highly in love – 1 Thess5:12-13.
3. Obey them that have the rule over us – Heb 13:7.
4. We are to count them worthy of double honour – 1 Tim5:17
5. We are not to muzzle – 1Tim5:18.
6. We are to receive accusations against them except before two or three
witnesses – 1Tim5:19.
The ministry’s responsibilities to us
1. They are to feed the flock of God – Acts 20:28
2. They are to reproof and rebuke with all long suffering – 2Tim4:2
3. They are to preach the word – 2Tim 4:1-5.
4. They are to make disciples, baptize and teach them to observe all things
the Lord has commanded – Acts 8:26-39.
5. They are to command and teach what God’s word declares – 1Tim 4:11.
6. They are to give directions for our lives as Paul did to the Corinthian
church – 1 Cor 5:11.
7. They are to teach believers to obey God’s command’s – 1 Tim 5:7, 6:2.
Ministry Offices at GPM (Worldwide). In closing there are several offices in the
church that we wish to explain for your understanding.
1. The lead pastor is the overseer of the church. Sometimes considered
parallel with the Bishop of the Church, all pastors, ministries and
leadership comes under their administration.
2. The Pastoral team consists of associate pastors, elders, deacons and
deaconesses. They take oversight of particular areas of the church and
conduct services during the absence of the lead pastor. They assist in
areas of spiritual matters.
3. The members of the senior team each represents a major ministry or area
of the church. They each have specific ministerial and administrative
duties.
4. Departmental leaders are those who are appointed to lead a specific area
of ministry or volunteer team. They ensure that the various areas of
ministry in the church function well. Departmental leaders serve under
the administration of the Pastoral and Senior team.
The offices in the church dealing with ministry and leadership are
important, we should respect the ministry highly and pray for their
leadership.
 CHAPTER SEVEN
Repentance
Webster’s dictionary defines repentance as, “to feel sorry or self-reproachful for
what one has or has not done, to feel so contrite over one’s sins as to change or
decide to change one’s way.
“But if we walk in the light as in the light, we have fellowship with one another,
and the door of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we
have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness – 1Jn 1:7-9.
When the world repents, they feel sorrow. However, feeling sorrow over one’s
sins is not enough. We must turn from our sins and change our lives and the
way we live.
 Judas repented of having betrayed Jesus Mt27:3, but his was only regret,
not a change of mind.
 In Genesis 6:6, God repented that he made man, but he did not change his
mind.
 When punishing their child, parents may feel sorrow but the discipline
was necessary, but that sorrow does not cause them to change their
minds.
What is repentance?
In Mt3:2-9, John the Baptist acknowledges that the Pharisees, were followers of
the law, but just a resemblance of godliness was not enough. They had to repent
and turn from their sin.
Repentance actually has three parts
1. A turning from sin – this turning must be both in heart (emotion) and
mind (thinking). We must both feel sorrow in our hearts and support that
sorrow with the resources of our minds.
2. A hate towards sin. Desiring to turn away from our old ways, and seeking
new, better paths. It involves hating the idea of sin and wanting to live a
holy life.
 3. A spirit of honour toward God. God told Abraham, “I am the Almighty
God, walk thou before me and be thou perfect.” And again he said, I am
holy, be ye therefore also holy”.
Remember, only God can call to repentence-
 Rm2:4 – states that the goodness of God leads to repentance.
 2Cor7:10 – also notes that godly sorrow worketh repentence to salvation.
 Jn6:44-45, 65 says, “No man can come to me, except the father …draw
him… Every man therefore that hath learned of the father, cometh unto
me. No man can come unto me, except it were given him of my father”
What about Sin
 Jam 1:15 – Sin, when it is finished brings forth death.
 Rm 6:23 – the wages of sin is death.
 Heb 9:14 – the blood of Jesus purges our conscience from dead works.
 Gat 5:16-21 – The works of the flesh will bring spiritual death.
 Sin not only brings about physical death, but spiritual death as well. Jesus
said, I have come that ye might have life, and that ye might have it more
abundantly” – Jn10:10.
 Spiritual death is eternal separation from God.
Examples of Repentance
Jacob in his return to Bethel – House of God, commanded the members of his
household to do three things.
1. Put away the strange gods from among them. This means removing
anything from your life that separates you from God – Judg9 10:15-16.
2. Be clean. This means to cleanse ourselves from the filthiness of the flesh
and spirit-2 Cor 7:1. This cleansing comes by heeding the world of God –
Ps119:9, Jn15:3.
3. Change their garments. This means to lay aside the garments of sin and
being clothed with salvation – Isa 61:20, Job 3:5-10, Rev 3:18, Rev 15:6,
1Pet 5:5.
Nineveh is a city in the country of Assyria, repented at the preaching of Jonah
the prophet – Jonah 3:5-10, Mt 12:41.
1. The people fasted. Both man and beast went without food for three days.
 2. They turned from their wickedness. Only this way can we find true
repentance.
3. They turn from violence. God saw that they had the right spirit within and
spared them.

Isaiah, one of Israel’s greatest prophets gives real insight into true.
repentance – Isa 55:-6-7.
1. Seek the Lord and call on him
2. The wicked forsake his way
3. Let the righteous forsake his thoughts
4. Let him return to the Lord. The results of this type of repentance are
found in Isa 55:7 – “God will abundantly pardon”.
Living a life of repentance
Acts 26:20, Mt3:8, Lk3:8, provide examples that illustrate the characteristics of
a person who has truly repented of their sins.
1. Repent and turn to God – reflect the transformational power of God.
2. Proof by the way you live, that you have repented of your sins.
3. Demonstrate through your actions that you have genuinely repented of
your sins.
Result of repentance
The word of God is very clear about repentance. When we repent as we have
discussed above, we get results.
- God forgives
- Eph4:32 – God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
- Col 2:13 – forgive you of all trespasses
- Acts 5:31 – to give repentance unto Israel and the forgiveness of sins.
- Col 1:14 – in whom we have the forgiveness of sins.
The works of repentance
1. Carefulness – a watchfulness lest you sin
2. Clearing – of yourself of guilt
3. Indignation – a hatred of sin
4. Fear – of God and sins results
5. Alarming desire – to be righteous and obey God
6. Zeal – in working for God and his cause
 7. Vindication – used in the sense of giving justice and the punishment of
sin.

Repentance for the saved

After you are born again there will be times of failure, mistakes, and even sin.
We deal with those times in our lives just as we did when we first came to the
lord – we repent. Paul said, “I die daily”. He meant that he repented daily. He
tried to live in the spirit and not in the flesh. No one is perfect. We must strive
for perfection. When we fail, the following scriptures instruct us on what to do.
1. When we confess our sins, He forgives and cleanses us – 1 Jn1:7-9.
2. Confession and forsaking of sin brings mercy – Pr28:13.
3. If we sin, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ, this righteous
– 1 Jn2:1-2.
4. In prayer, we are to ask for forgiveness Mt6:5-15.
In search for the fullness of truth regarding salvation, the fact remains, we must
repent. Nothing can supersede or replace repentance in our lives. It is God’s
command, our duty, and our privilege to come to him in genuine repentance.
Joy comes to the heart of the repentant and to even the angels in heaven -
LK15:7.
 CHAPTER EIGHT
Baptism

What is the meaning of Baptism?

1. Baptism is for the remission of Sin – LK24:46-47.
- Jesus said that repentance and remission of sin should be preached in his
name beginning at Jerusalem.
- There is a difference in repentance of sin and remission of sin.
- When we repent, God forgives us. When God remits our sins, they are
forgotten.

2. It illustrates Christs burial and resurrection 1 Cor15:3-4, Col2:12.

3. It illustrates a new life as a Christian 2Cor5:17.
Why should I be baptized?
1. To follow the example set by Jesus – Mk1:9.
2. Because Christ commands it – Mt28:19-20.
- Jesus said in Mk 16:15-16, “He who believes and is baptized will be
saved”.
- The apostles first message contained a command to be baptized – Acts
2:38.
3. It demonstrated that I am a believer Acts18:8, 1Jn2:3.
4. Baptism is a washing and a cleaning of the conscience 1Pet3:21.
5. Baptism is part of the new birth experience – Jn 3:5, Titus 3:5.
How to be Baptized
Baptism is done in the name of Jesus Christ -Mt28:19, Acts 2:38.

Peter followed the command by baptizing in the name of the father, son
and Holy Spirit
In Mt28:19 “name” is singular.
- The name of the father Jn5:43
- The name of the son in Mt1:21, Jesus
 - The name of the Holy Ghost in Jn14:26, Jesus. All biblical accounts show
baptism in the name of Jesus.
 Acts 2:38-41
 Acts 8:12,16
 Acts 10:48
 Acts 19.5
 Acts 22:16.
Jesus is the saving name of God – Acts 4:12
Baptism by immersion
At GPM worldwide, we baptize by immersion in the name of Jesus.
1. Jesus was baptized this way – Mt 3:16.
2. Every baptism in the new testament was by immersion – Acts 8:34-39, Jn
3:23.
3. The word “baptize” means to “dip under water”.
4. It symbolizes a death and burial – Rm6:3-4.
When should I be baptized?
Every person who has believed in Christ – Acts 2:41, Acts 8:12.
Who should I be baptized?
As soon as you have believed Acts 2:41, Acts8:35-38.
There is no reason to delay. As soon as you have the faith to accept what Jesus
did for you on Calvary and you have repented of your sins, you can and should
be baptized. If you wait until you are “perfect”, You will never feel “good
enough”.
Can my family be baptized together?
Yes! If each family member understands fully the meaning of baptism, and each
one has personally placed his or her trust in Christ for salvation, we encourage
families to be baptized at the same time. It is a wonderful expression of
commitment. However it is important to remember that baptism is a personal
statement of faith, not a family tradition. It is not wise to delay your baptism
while waiting on other family members to believe and repent of their sins.

What should I wear when I am baptized?

You need baptismal robe to wear for your baptism. Bring a change of clothes, a
towel, a nylon bag for your wet clothes.
Will I have to say anything?
We will pray over you and then baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ. Then
briefly lower you just under the water and bring you back up again. At this time,
we encourage you to praise God and thank him for washing away your sins.
 CHAPTER NINE
Holy Ghost
Our first and foremost goal should be that we must be saved. The steps of
salvation are not difficult. You can easily find out about salvation in the bible.
Salvation comes through faith alone, however, once we believe, our response to
faith will include as follows:
1. My faith response to the gospel is repentance, having a sorrowful attitude
and confession of sin.
2. Water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus.
3. Receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost was poured out on the Church Acts2:1-4
- Jews from many nations were in Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of
Pentecost.
- When the 120 received the spirit and began to speak with other tongues,
many of those visitors began to gather.
- These foreign Jews began to hear the various languages of their native
countries and marveled that uneducated Galileans could speak in all these
foreign tongues.
- There were at least fourteen foreign lands represented – Acts 2:5-11.
Who spoke in tongues in the bible
The new testament contains several passages that indisputably describe people
receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost and every time it is accompanied by
speaking in other tongues.
1. Every on in the upper room
- On the day of Pentecost all 120 were filled – Acts 2:4.
- Among them were Mary, mother of Jesus, Jesus’ four half-brothers, and
all the disciples.

2. Samaritans received the Holy Ghost

- The Samaritans received the same experience and had an outward sign to
tell everyone when people received the Holy Ghost – Acts 8:14-17.
- Even Simon the sorcerer know they had received a heavenly gift and
sought to buy the power – Acts 8:18.
 3. Gentiles received the Holy Ghost
- The Holy Ghost fell on Cornelius and other gentiles, and they spoke with
other tongues – Acts 10:44-48.
- This “speaking in tongues” sign alone was sufficient for Peter to proclaim
that the Gentiles had received the same Holy Ghost experience – Acts
11:15,17.

4. Disciples of John the Baptist Received the Holy Ghost

- In acts 19, a group of John the Baptist’s disciples were re-baptized in
Jesus name by the apostle Paul, and they were filled with the Holy Ghost
– Acts19:1-6.
- In each of these examples, those who spoke in tongues did so by the
power of God’s Spirit.
 The book of Acts indicates that when you receive the Baptism of the
Holy Ghost, you will speak with tongues. It describes tongues as the
“initial sign” associated with the individual filling.
 Speaking in tongues is not gibberish, or merely an intelligible, ecstatic
utterance, without meaning.
 Those who speak in tongues, speak in genuine languages, even though
the speakers themselves do not understand what they say.
 Speaking in tongue is a gift from God and a significant part of God’s plan
for the New Testament church.
Who can receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit
The Baptism of the Holy Ghost is a “gift” God has for all believers – Mk16:17,
Jn7:38-39, Acts 19:2.
Why did God choose Tongues as the signs of Spirit Baptism?
- God is Sovereign.
 He can establish a plan without explaining his reasons to us. We must
accept speaking in tongues because God chose this sign. God has
historically used outward, physical signs to accompany covenants with
man and the promised blessings under those covenants.
 Examples: Rainbow to Noah, circumcision to Abraham.
- The tongue seams to be most difficult member of the body to control –
Jam1:26, Jam3:2-6,8.
 Before someone receives the Holy Ghost, they must surrender their whole
being to God, and the last member to surrender is the tongue.
  Speaking in tongues symbolizes the unity of the church.
 After the flood, God gave them many languages to stop their evil
schemes and scatter them – Gen 11:1-9. At Pentecost, God reversed the
process, taking people from many nations and uniting them into one
spiritual family by the infilling of the Holy Ghost and the sign of tongues.
Why is it important that I receive the Holy Ghost?
Great importance is placed on receiving the Holy Ghost in the Bible.
 It is a gift that God desires to give you Acts: 2:38.
 It brings righteousness, peace and joy – Rm 14:17.
 It helps us pray – Rm8:26.
 It gives us power to witness Acts 1:8.
 It will guide us into all truth. JN 16:13.
 It gives you power over the enemy. 1Jn 4:4.
 It is the supernatural agent that will give life to our mortal bodies at his
return when we obtain full salvation. Rm8:11.
Paul admonished the church at Ephesus.
Eph 5:18 – Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead
be filled with the Holy Spirit.
- To be “full” or “filled” with the Holy Spirit, is God’s desire for each of
us.
- May we all obtain this wonderful level in God.
- If you have not yet received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, God wants to
fill you. Every time there is a church service, get into the altar and
worship God. He will fill you and you will know when that happens
because of the initial sign of speaking in tongues.
