LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

1. Traffic Problems

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the
concerned authorities to the serious traffic problems in our city.

The number of vehicles is increasing rapidly, but the roads are narrow and poorly managed.
Traffic jams have become a daily problem. People waste a lot of time on the roads and
many accidents occur due to careless driving.

The government should improve the traffic system, widen the roads, and ensure that traffic
rules are strictly followed.

2. Unemployment

Through the columns of your respected newspaper, I would like to highlight the serious
problem of unemployment in our country.

Many educated young people are unable to find suitable jobs. Due to unemployment, they
face financial difficulties and become disappointed about their future.

The government should create more job opportunities and encourage industries so that the
youth may get employment and contribute to the development of the country.

3. Water Shortage

Through the columns of your newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the authorities to
the serious problem of water shortage in our city.

Many areas receive water only for a short time, and some people have to buy water for daily
use. This problem creates great difficulties for the residents.

The government should take immediate steps to improve the water supply system and
ensure the proper distribution of clean drinking water.

4. Drug Addiction

Through the columns of your newspaper, I would like to highlight the growing problem of
drug addiction among the youth.

Many young people are becoming addicted to harmful drugs. This habit destroys their
health, wastes their future, and causes serious social problems.

The government and society should take strict action against drug dealers and also create
awareness programs to protect young people from this dangerous habit.
5. Inflation (Price Hike)

Through the columns of your newspaper, I would like to draw attention to the rising problem
of inflation in our country.

The prices of daily necessities such as food, fuel, and electricity are increasing day by day.
Because of this, it has become very difficult for poor and middle-class families to manage
their household expenses.

The government should take effective steps to control prices and provide relief to the
public.

6. Child Labour

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to highlight the serious
issue of child labour.

Many children are forced to work in shops, factories, and workshops instead of going to
school. This deprives them of education and a better future.

The government should strictly enforce laws against child labour and ensure that every
child receives proper education.

7. Excessive Use of Social Media

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the
authorities and the public towards the excessive use of social media by the youth.

Nowadays many young people spend most of their time on social networking sites. As a
result, they neglect their studies, health, and social responsibilities. This addiction is also
affecting their mental and physical well-being.

Parents and teachers should guide young people to use social media in a positive and
limited way so that they may focus on their education and productive activities.

8. Environmental Pollution

Through the columns of your newspaper, I would like to highlight the serious problem of
environmental pollution in our country.

Air, water, and land pollution are increasing day by day due to smoke from vehicles, factory
waste, and improper disposal of garbage. These problems are causing many diseases and
damaging the natural environment.

The government and the public should take effective steps to control pollution by planting
more trees and keeping the surroundings clean.
Letters to Principal

9. Career Counselling Workshop

I beg to state that the students of classes IX and X are often confused about choosing their
future careers. At this stage of life, proper guidance is very important so that students may
select the right field according to their interests and abilities.

A career counselling workshop conducted by experts would help students understand

different professions and educational opportunities. It would also motivate them to work
hard for their goals.

I therefore request you to kindly arrange a career counselling workshop in our school for the
benefit of the students.

10. Application for Leave

I beg to state that I am a student of class IX in your school. I have been suffering from high
fever since yesterday and the doctor has advised me to take complete rest for a few days.

Due to this illness, I am unable to attend my classes. I request you to kindly grant me leave
for three days from 11 March to 13 March.

I shall be very grateful to you for your kindness.

11. Fee Concession

With due respect, I beg to state that I am a regular student of class IX in your school. My
father is a daily wage worker and his income is not sufficient to meet the educational
expenses of our family.

Because of financial difficulties, it has become very hard for my father to pay my school
fees regularly. However, I am a hardworking student and I wish to continue my studies.

I therefore request you to kindly grant me fee concession so that I may complete my
education.

12. Study Tour

I beg to state that study tours play an important role in the learning process of students.
They provide practical knowledge and give students an opportunity to observe things
directly.

Our class has been studying different historical and scientific topics which would become
more interesting if we could visit educational places.
Therefore, I request you to kindly arrange a study tour for the students of our class. It will
greatly benefit us in our studies.

5. Application for Sports Competition

I beg to state that sports activities are very important for the physical fitness and mental
development of students. Unfortunately, such activities are not arranged regularly in our
school.

Sports competitions encourage students to participate in healthy activities and develop

team spirit and discipline.

Therefore, I request you to kindly arrange sports competitions for the students of our
school.

6. Application for Improving Library Facilities

I beg to state that our school library plays an important role in the education of students.
However, there are very few books available for reading and reference.

Many students are interested in reading different books to increase their knowledge, but
the limited number of books creates difficulty for them.

I therefore request you to kindly improve the library facilities by providing more useful
books and reading materials
