Course/Module Aim
This professional course is intended
➢ to acquaint the civil engineering student with the fundamentals of
design of concrete structures and the behavior of the structural
members and the constituent materials so that the designed
elements and system are durable with appropriate long-term
serviceability performance.
➢ To develop the understanding and application of design
procedures for various materials (particularly steel and concrete)
related to professional codes of practice.
➢ To further develop analytical and conceptual understanding of
structural action through the design of elements and simple
structures.

Design Standards
•Our design will refer to EUROCODE
Calculation, Design aids and Computation
•Calculations form the major part of the design process. They are
needed to determine the loading on the elements and structure
and to carry out the analysis and design of the elements.
•Design aids in the form of charts and tables are an important part
of the designer’s equipment.
•These aids make exact design methods easier to apply, shorten
design time and lessen the possibility of making errors
