1. Comment on the following statement. Errors should be accepted as „transitional


interlanguage" and sometimes ignored.

This statement reflects an important principle in language learning: errors are not just
mistakes, they are natural signs of progress. When learners acquire a new language, they go
through stages of development where they combine elements from their native language and
the target language. This stage is called transitional interlanguage. During this stage, learners
experiment with grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, and errors are a natural part of this
experimentation.

Accepting errors as part of learning has several benefits:

●​ It encourages communication without fear of being constantly corrected.


●​ It helps build confidence, because learners are not afraid to speak.
●​ Teachers can focus on communication goals, addressing only the errors that block
understanding.

However, not all errors should be ignored. Errors that are repeated frequently or that prevent
others from understanding the message should be corrected. Teachers can also use errors as
teaching moments, helping learners notice patterns and improve gradually.

might ignore it to maintain fluency, but later explain the past tense rule in a grammar session.
This approach balances communication and accuracy.
