🖥️ Slide 1: The Processor (CPU)

🔹 What is a Processor?

• The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the most important part of a computer.
• It is called the “brain of the computer.”
• It processes data and controls all operations.
• Just like the human brain:
o Makes decisions
o Responds quickly
o Controls activities

🔹 Processor Speed

• Computer performance depends on processor speed.

• Higher speed → More data processed per second.
• Measured in Hertz (Hz)
o MHz (Megahertz)
o GHz (Gigahertz)
• 1000 MHz = 1 GHz
• Higher GHz = Faster computer performance.

Example:
A fast blender produces more juice in less time.
Similarly, a faster processor completes more work in less time.

🚀 Slide 2: Types of Processors & Manufacturers

🔹 Processor Manufacturers

1. Apple
2. Intel
3. AMD (Advanced Micro Devices)
🔹 Types of Processors (Based on Cores)

Number of
Type Performance Level
Cores
1 Single Core Basic performance
2 Dual Core Better multitasking
High performance & faster
4 Quad Core
processing

🔹 Key Idea

• More cores → Better multitasking.

• Higher speed → Better overall computer performance.
• Specifications help us choose a better-quality computer.

1. Monitor Display (1.5.3)

Monitor

• The monitor is the main output device of a computer.

• Users interact with the computer through the monitor.

Monitor Size

• Larger monitors give better visibility.

• Monitor size is measured diagonally in inches (e.g., 19 inches).
• Bigger screen = easier to view larger pictures.

Monitor Technology

Monitors are classified based on technology:

4. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Monitor

a. Consumes more electricity
b. Heavy and bulky
c. Takes more space
5. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Monitor
a. Uses less electricity than CRT
b. Lighter and thinner
6. LED (Light Emitting Diode) Monitor
a. Uses less electricity
b. Lightweight
c. Commonly used today

2. Main Memory (1.5.4)

• Main memory stores data and instructions temporarily while the computer is
working.
• It is also called RAM (Random Access Memory).
• Larger memory capacity = stores more data and instructions.
• A computer with higher main memory works better.

3. Processor (CPU Types)

• More processors (cores) = higher capacity and better performance.

Types of Processors:

1. Single Core
a. Example: Pentium I, II, III, IV
2. Dual Core
a. Example: Dual Core, Core 2 Duo
3. Quad Core
a. Example: Core i3, i5, i7, i9

4. Hard Disk (1.5.2)

• Hard disk provides permanent storage.
• It stores data and installed software.
• It is the main secondary storage device.
• Larger storage capacity = more data can be stored.
o Example: 1 TB stores less than 4 TB.

Page 1: Video Graphic Adapter (VGA) &

Sound Cards
1. Video Graphic Adapter (VGA)

What is VGA?

• VGA stands for Video Graphic Adapter / Video Graphic Array.

• It is used to connect the computer to a monitor.
• It sends video signals from the computer to the display device.

Types of VGA

1. On-board VGA
a. Built into the motherboard.
b. Suitable for basic tasks (MS Office, browsing, watching videos).
2. Separate (External) VGA Card
a. Installed separately in the motherboard.
b. Has its own video memory and processor.
c. Best for gaming, graphic designing, and video editing.

Modern Video Ports

Modern computers use:

• VGA – Transfers only video.

• DVI (Digital Visual Interface) – Better digital video quality.
• HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) – Transfers both audio and video.

Difference Between VGA and HDMI

VGA HDMI
Sends only video Sends audio + video
Older
Modern technology
technology
Lower quality High-definition quality

2. Sound Cards

What is a Sound Card?

• A sound card allows the computer to play and record sound.

• It is used for music, movies, gaming, and voice recording.

Types of Sound Cards

1. Built-in Sound Card

a. Already fixed on the motherboard.
b. Common in most computers.
2. External Sound Card
a. Connected separately.
b. Used for better sound quality.

Sound Card Ports (Color Code)

• Light Green – Audio Out (Speaker/Headphone)

• Light Pink – Mic In (Microphone)
• Light Blue – Line In (External audio device)

Input and Output

• Microphone → Input device (records sound)

• Speaker → Output device (plays sound)
Page 2: Pre-Installed Software & Operating
System
1. Operating System (OS)

What is an Operating System?

• An Operating System is the main software of a computer.

• It acts as a bridge between:
o User
o Application Software
o Hardware

Structure

User → Application Software → Operating System → Hardware

Without an OS, a computer cannot function.

2. Types of Operating Systems

Free and Open-Source OS

• Available free of cost.

• Example: Linux, Ubuntu
• Users can modify the source code.

Licensed Operating System

• Must be purchased.
• Example: Windows 8, Windows 10
• Cannot modify source code.
Trial Version

• Can be used only for a limited time.

• After expiry, license must be purchased.

3. Pre-Installed Software
• Some computers come with an OS already installed.
• Most systems may come with:
o DOS
o Linux
• Licensed OS computers are more expensive.

Why Pre-Installed OS is Important

• Saves installation time.

• Ready to use immediately.
• Ensures compatibility with hardware.

Conclusion
• VGA helps display images on the monitor.
• Sound cards manage audio input and output.
• Operating System is the heart of the computer.
• Pre-installed software makes the computer ready for use.

If you want, I can also make this into:

• PowerPoint slide format

• Short speech script
• Handwritten-friendly notes
• Mind map format
