GRADE 12.
LIFE ORIENTATION
SOURCE-BASED TASK 2026.
ACTIVITY 1:
1.1 Stress Management :
refers to the range of skills and techniques individuals use to
recognize, control, and reduce the negative effects of stress in
their lives. For Grade 12 learners, it is a vital skill that helps them
navigate the unique pressures of their final year—such as heavy
workloads and future planning—allowing them to maintain their
well-being and stay focused on their goals.
1.2 Grade 12 learners often feel overwhelmed balancing social lives
and acFuture Uncertainty:ademic priorities due to:
•Heavy Academic Load: The intense pressure of preparing for final
examinations and constant assessments.• Anxiety regarding
university applications, career choices, and life after high
school.•Social Expectations: Pressure from peers to participate in
social events and the desire to maintain friendships while
studying.•Time Management Challenges: Struggling to create a
balanced schedule that accommodates homework, sports, and
personal life. 1.3 Social vs. environmental factors
to deal with stress:
•Social factors are caused by the people around you, such as peer
pressure, family expectations to succeed, and relationship
issues.•Environmental factors are caused by your physical
surroundings, such as noise pollution, a lack of resources (like
electricity or study materials), or extreme weather conditions that
disrupt concentration. 1.4 Impactof inability to deal with
stress.•An inability to manage stress can lead to poor
concentration and memory loss, making it difficult to retain
information. It often results in procrastination or complete
withdrawal from schoolwork as the learner feels too defeated to
start, ultimately leading to lower grades.
1.5 Benefits of manageable stress.
Manageable stress can be beneficial because:•Increases
Motivation: It
acts as a "push" to start studying early and meet
deadlines.•Improves Performance: Moderate stress can heighten
alertness and cognitive function, helping you think more clearly
during an exam.•Builds Resilience: Coping with small amounts of
pressure prepares you for the high expectations of university and
future careers.
1.6 Assisting peers with exam stress
As a peer, you can help others by:
•Organizing Study Groups: Breaking down complex topics into
smaller, manageable parts to make the workload less
intimidating.•Sharing Relaxation Techniques: Teaching peers
simple methods like deep breathing or mindfulness to calm their
minds.•Encouraging Healthy Habits: Reminding friends to take
regular breaks, stay hydrated, and get enough sleep.•Providing
Emotional Support: Actively listening to their worries to reduce the
feeling of isolation during the exam period.
1.7 Intrapersonal conflict and assessment
