(1) Prove that x2 + x + 1 is a factor of x10 + x5 + 1.


(2) Find the remainder when 4x5 + 3x3 + 6x2 + 5 is divided by 2x + 1.
(3) Find the remainder when x5 − 3x4 + 4x2 + x + 4 is divided by (x + 1)(x − 2).
(4) For what integral values of m is x2 + x + 1 a factor of x2m + xm + 1?
(5) If x3 + 3px + q has a factor of the form (x − α)2 , then prove that q 2 + 4p3 = 0.
(6) If x4 + px2 + qx + r has a factor of the form (x − α)3 , then prove that 8p3 + 27q 2 = 0
and p2 + 12r = 0.
(7) Prove that x20 + x15 + x10 + x5 is divisible by x2 + 1.
(8) Prove that (x + 1)16 + x16 + 1 is divisible by x2 + x + 1.
(9) Prove that (x + 1)7 − x7 − 1 is divisible by x(x + 1)(x2 + x + 1).
(10) Find the remainder when x10 + x7 + x4 + x3 + 1 is divided by x2 + 1.
(11) A polynomial f (x) leaves the remainders 10 and 2x − 3 when it is divided by x − 2
and (x+1)2 , respectively. Find the remainder when it is divided by (x−2)(x+1)2 .
(12) Let f (x) be a polynomial of degree 4 such that f (0) = 25, f (1) = 2, f (2) = 3,
f (3) = 4 and f (4) = 5. Determine the value of f (5).
(13) If f (x) is a polynomial and a ̸= b are real numbers, then prove that the remainder
