Summer Season
Why is it called summer?
Where did the word summer come from? The word summer is quite
old. It's recorded before the year 900 and comes from the Old English
word for the season, sumor. It's related to the Dutch zomer, the German
Sommer, and the Sanskrit samā (which means “year”).
Introduction
The summer season usually runs between March and June in India,
where the days are considered to be the longer and nights shorter. The
weather is hot, humid and dry during this season, and temperature can rise
extremely high in certain places, as the Earth tilts itself towards the Sun.
Why summer is the best season
We love summer here at Forest Holidays and not just because it’s the
perfect time for a forest break. The day trips to the beach, the warming
summer breeze, and the chance to spend time with family and friends are
just a few reasons to fall in love with this season. Read on for 30 reasons
why we love summer!
The warm weather. Waking up to the sunlight glistening through the
trees or streaming in the window instantly energises you for the day ahead.
Picnics. Definitely one of the best ways to enjoy the sun with your
family and friends.
Blue skies. When blue skies appear you know that summer is here!
Gazing up at pure blue skies instantly soothes the soul…
Swimming in the sea. Nothing beats dipping your feet into the sea for
the first time that year and instantly feeling relaxed.
Ice cream. Whether you are a fan of Ben and Jerry’s or you love the
classic Mr. Whippy, both taste so much nicer when the sun is shining.
Time off school for the kids. This means the kids can relax and that
families can catch up on some well-deserved time together.
The clothing. Swap your winter coats and woolly hats for flip flops,
sunglasses, and shorts!
The enjoyment of the great outdoors. There is so much to explore when
we get the chance to step outside and take in the summer sun. Discover the
secrets of the forest with one of our Forest Rangers or take on a new kind

Disadvantages of Summer Season
Heat and moisture
The most significant disadvantage of the summer season in most
countries is the extreme heat and humidity, which can be uncomfortable
and even dangerous for some people. High temperatures and humidity
levels can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially
in people exposed to the sun for long periods of time or who work
outdoors.
Water Shortage
Water scarcity is another significant problem that people face during
summer in many countries. High temperatures and humidity levels
increase water demand and many areas have limited or inadequate water
supplies. This can lead to water shortages, which can affect daily life and
cause health problems.
Vector-Borne Diseases
The summer season is also associated with the risk of vector-borne
diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya. High temperature and
humidity levels create a favorable environment for the breeding and
growth of mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects. Overall, the
difficulties of the summer season can make it a challenging time for many
people. However, by taking necessary precautions and adopting
appropriate coping strategies, people can mitigate the negative effects of
the season and enjoy its benefits.
Use fans and air conditioners
Using fans and air conditioners can help cool the body and relieve heat.
It is recommended to set the temperature of the air conditioner between 24-
27 degrees Celsius to save energy and reduce electricity bills. Also, it is
advised to avoid going outside as soon as the air-conditioned temperature
is present.
Take a shower regularly
Regular bathing helps to keep the body cool and refreshed during
summer. Bathing at least twice a day is recommended, especially before
going to bed, to cool down the body and improve sleep quality.
