Chapter 3

The document outlines the research methodology for mobile application development, specifically using the Agile Mobile-D methodology, which includes five phases: Explore, Initialize, Productionize, Stabilize, and System Test and Fix. It details the activities and deliverables for the first three phases, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement, resource organization, and user interface implementation. Data collection methods such as observation and questionnaires are also discussed to enhance the development process.

METHODOLOGY

3.0 INTRODUCTION
Research methodology is all about the research methods that usually encompasses the
procedures followed to analyze and interpret the data gathered. In the research method, it
show the advancement and phase of project development process for every stage.

3.1 SCOPE OF STUDY

The Application development of this research is divided into two parts where the first
part is the study setting where it outline the whole development process that are involved
and another part is the study design where it explain more about every process stage.
Basically the development framework are being done base on the selected development
model.

3.1.1 STUDY SETTING

The development for this mobile application are using Agile Practice which using the
Mobile-D methodology where it consists of five (5) phases of stage which are are Explore,
Initialize, Productionize, Stabilize, and System Test and Fix. Reason for using this methodology
is because the framework proven to be most efficient and reliable among other methodology as
discuss in literature review. However, the phases will be only cover the first three (3) phases as
to align with the requirement.
Figure 3 : Mobile-D Phases

The figure shows the methodology phases that will involve in implementing the product.

Phase Activities Deliverables

1. Explore - Stakeholder - Initial Require Document
Establishment
- Measurement Plan
- Scope Definition
- Project Plan
- Project
Establishment

2. Initialize - Explore Requirement - Software Architecture and

and Future Mobile Design Document
Application

- Prepare technical
resources.

3. Productionize - Implement - User Interface Illustration

Functionality

[Link] EXPLORE

In the first phases which is Explore is more focusing on finding the potential stakeholder as well
as to gather requirement from them. Besides that, the project plan also being established with the
mission, vission, scope and etc. Based on that, the Initial Requirement Document will be
implemented as the result of the activities.
[Link] INITIALIZE

In this next phases which is Initialize, the development team are should understand on
how the product will be develop and organize the important essential resources for the phases
activities. For example in technical resources, what mobile platform should be use, which
languange is suitable or what are the software needed to implement the product. In this phases
also, the software architecture and design document should be ready.

[Link] PRODUCTIONIZE

The Productionize phase mostly contains implementation activities. The activities are
more focusing on developing the User Interface (UI) with the main functionality which will
produce the prototype version. Besides that, this phases also will prepare the acceptance test.
When on implementation functionality activity, it will be done for the current iteration based on
the established plan.

3.2 METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

Before the development of this application can be carried out, data gathering should
be done. There are multiple way for gathering the information and the best strategy for
gathering the data are :
 Observation
- The observation is the best approach to watch and discover about the user
target behaviour . The way of user behave and give reaction may given a data
that be more solid than information by getting from the questioning method.

 Questionnaire
- The questionnaire method able to collect the demographic data and user’s
opinion. Questionnaire are similar to interview way where with this
method, the developer able to ask certain same questions to multiple user
and doing some analysis from the result of the questionnaire.
3.3 CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, a good framework or guideline for the development process may improve the
quality of the product. The used of Mobile-D method, will help the developer team more easier
to implement the product since Mobile-D method is using an agile practice in a way of fast
approach development.
