TURF CRICKET RULES
(7 + 1 Players | 5 Overs per Innings)
1. Teams
● Each team consists of 7 playing players + 1 substitute.
● Only 7 players are allowed on the field at any time.
● Substitute may field only with umpire approval and cannot bat, bowl, or keep wicket.
2. Match Format
● 5 overs per innings
● One innings per team
● Each over consists of 6 legal balls
3. Batting
● Two batters on the field at a time
● All 7 players must bat
● The innings ends when:
○ 5 overs are completed, or
○ 6 wickets fall
● Retired hurt batters may resume only if no other batter is available
4. Bowling
● Underarm Bowling
● Maximum 1 over per bowler
● No bowler may bowl consecutive overs
● A minimum of 5 different bowlers must be used
5. Extras
● No-ball:
○ Overstepping, direct above the waist, direct out of the pitch, and bounce before
the no-ball line,
○ 1 run + extra ball
● Wide:
○ Ball out of batter’s reach
○ 1 run + extra ball
● Free hit after no-ball is applied
● Leg-bye runs ( no extra ball)
6. Scoring
● Running between wickets counts as runs
● Boundary rules:
○ Ball touches boundary after bounce: 4 runs
○ Ball clears boundary on the full: 6 runs
● Overthrows count as runs
7. Dismissals
A batter may be out by:
● Bowled
● Caught
● Caught directly after hitting the roof
● Run out
● Stumped
● Hit wicket
8. Fielding Rules
● Maximum 3 fielders on the boundary
● Maximum 2 fielders inside the circle
● Wicketkeeper must stay behind the stumps until the ball is delivered
● No fielder may obstruct the batter deliberately
9. Umpires
● One or two umpires may officiate
● Umpire’s decision is final
10. Result
● Team scoring more runs wins
● If scores are tied:
○ Match is a tie, or
○ Super over (optional):
■ 1 over per team
■ Maximum 2 wickets
11. Spirit of the Game
● Fair play and respect for opponents and umpires is mandatory
● Dissent or misconduct may result in penalty runs or player removal
