Project M.A.S.T.E.R.
Math Assistance and Support Toward Effective Remediation
Action Plan: Strengthening Foundational Math Skills Through Targeted Remediation for Grade
3 Learners
I. Rationale
Mathematics is a core subject that is essential to the development of logical thinking, problem-
solving, and numeracy skills among learners. However, some Grade 3 students struggle with
mastering basic operations, which affects their overall academic performance.
Project M.A.S.T.E.R. is designed to provide focused and engaging intervention to help these
learners improve their math skills and regain confidence in the subject. This action plan outlines
the steps, strategies, and tools to be used in addressing these learning gaps effectively.
II. Objectives
To enhance learners' mastery in the four fundamental operations: addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division.
To develop learners’ problem-solving skills through guided practice and real-life
application.
To improve the mathematical confidence and classroom performance of struggling
Grade 3 learners.
III. Target Learners and Duration
Target Learners: Identified Grade 3 pupils who scored below proficiency in math
assessments.
Duration: 6 weeks – 2 sessions per week (30–45 minutes per session)
IV. Weekly Focus and Sample Activities
Week Focus Skill Sample Activities
Week 1 Addition with regrouping Number card games, puzzle sums
Week 2 Subtraction with regrouping Dice subtraction, missing number hunt
Week Focus Skill Sample Activities
Week 3 Multiplication as repeated addition Skip counting songs, group activities
Week 4 Multiplication facts (2s–5s) Multiplication war cards, match-up
Week 5 Basic division concepts Sharing counters, draw-to-divide worksheet
Week 6 Word problem solving Picture problems, math storytelling
V. Strategies and Resources
Strategies Used:
Use of manipulatives (counters, sticks, coins)
Peer-assisted learning and group work
Visual aids and anchor charts
CPA (Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract) method
Games and interactive drills
Resources Needed:
Flashcards and math charts
Manipulatives (buttons, counters, sticks)
Math journals or worksheets
Visual aids/posters
Timer or stopwatch for drills
VI. Monitoring and Evaluation
To ensure the effectiveness of the intervention, a structured Learner Progress Tracking Sheet
will be used. This sheet includes weekly attendance and performance monitoring, post-test
scores, and teacher remarks to identify learners' improvement or additional needs.
The results will guide the teacher in modifying instruction and planning further interventions.
Assessment Tools:
Baseline test (Pre-test)
Weekly formative quizzes
Teacher-made worksheets
End-of-program Post-test
Learner progress checklist
VII. Expected Outcomes
At least 75% of learners improve by one proficiency level.
Learners demonstrate better accuracy in basic operations.
Increased learner participation and confidence in math lessons.
